The SBS Drama “Connection” Episodes 1 And 2 Review
The SBS Drama “Connection” taking over “The Escape of The Seven” slot has finally aired, let us discuss the return of Ji Sung!
Note: this article is a first-impression review, it doesn’t mean this is the writer’s final thoughts on the drama. This is a spoiler review.
What mainly caught my attention with this drama was the fact that the script features a cop who gets addicted to drugs. I thought that was a very interesting angle to explore for Korean screenwriters, and maybe, just maybe, K-netizens will begin to sympathize more with drug addicts opposed to how they’re generally viewed in their society.
Although in this case, he was sort of force fed this very addictive drug. The ordeal lasted a couple of days so they could make sure he’d seriously struggle moving forward, diabolical if you ask me, especially considering how cut-throat he is. I am sure this drama will explore how difficult it is to get rid of a drug addiction and how it can easily ruin your life even in small doses.
Ji Sung, again, is marvelous in this role. He’s the perfect actor for such a type of role, you know he’ll give it 110%. Mi Do is also great here and surprisingly, very infuriating as the journalist. I expected the character to have a nicer introduction, but this is definitely a pleasant surprise. I wonder if she’s truly an awful journalist or a good one disguised as a bad one.
The drama is penned by Lee Hyun who only wrote one prior drama named “Diary of a Prosecutor,” which was led by the late Lee Sun Kyun and didn’t particularly make much of a noise.
This drama will be 14 episodes long, not 12 or 16, but 14 which is typically rare in kdramaland.
Since Ji Sung chose this project, I have a lot of faith it’ll be lots of fun. This can blow up and become a massive success especially since its already at the prime timeslot of SBS’s weekend dramas, so if the screenwriter does their job well, I am anticipating this becoming a success.
The 1st and 2nd episodes were lots of fun. Fast paced, sharp and full of twists too. I reckon the high school ‘friends’ did something to Jae-Kyeong’s friend but who knows for sure. What I know is this, it’ll be fun tuning in next week.
