“Spice Up Our Love” Review- Over The Top, Cheesy And So Much Fun

Seriously, I cannot get enough of “No Gain, No Love” cast, and despite how different its spin-off “Spice Up Our Love” turned out to be, I was still pleasantly surprised and happy to have watched it!

So, a couple of days ago “No Gain, No Love” ended its run. If you read my ending recap or its review, then you know I loved the drama. It was one of the pleasant surprises of 2024, for sure.

The casting was great, the chemistry was chemistry-ing and it was so much fun. It used typical and cliché kdrama tropes and took it to the next level in a way that I found to be very interesting, so for sure I was excited to see what the spin-off would offer.

Honestly, the spin-off was mostly kept under wraps with not many details shared which was a bit weird. I don’t know why but I expected it to be a continuation of “No Gain, No Love,” and that didn’t turn out to be the case. This spin-off was confirmed around the time “No Gain, No Love” began airing so I expected us to be more updated on the progress but nothing…. and now I finally understand why.

And while I’d say I was slightly disappointed, I still found the 2 episodes to be so much fun.

The idea itself is nice. I think certain 2nd lead couples deserve their own spin-offs, and Lee Sang Yi and Han Ji Hyun shared such good chemistry and had a great story that it made sense.

A part of me feels like TVING was testing the waters with this one. I felt they didn’t go as far as I would have liked for the spin-off as it appears to be a treat for serious fans of the series rather than anything bigger.

And it could be that the actors were busy but still, I would have loved for their story to have continued.

The 2 episodes were quirky, and definitely not what I expected. Weirdly, it ties nicely to the overall story of “No Gain, No Love” and there were several moments I loved especially the moment when Ja-Yeon sees her younger self in a better relationship with her father, the one she truly wished for inside the webtoon. That was such a nice touch.

Overall, I’d say if you enjoyed “No Gain, No Love” you’ll probably love this one. Its short and sweet. I love how far Han Ji Hyun has come as an actress, she truly has a bright future ahead of her. I am excited about what she does next. Also, Lee You-Jin, who plays the secretary role, is so charming. He also has a bright future ahead of him.
