“Undercover High School” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- Super Fun, A Good Start

Our Seo Kang Joon is back after what seems like an eternity in the new MBC drama “Undercover High School”, so how was it? Let us discuss it!

I think I speak for many of us when I say we have missed Seo Kang Joon so much. This is his first acting project since his discharge. He’s one of my favorite actors, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for his first project, which took about two years after his discharge. Alas, we’re here, and I am happy to report that it was so much fun, but I am a bit skeptic.

“Undercover High School” has a good mix of serious, heartfelt, and comical. Along with his seriously handsome appearance, Seo Kang Joon also excels at comedy and has good comedic timing, you wouldn’t expect it, but he has it.

He’s joined by my fav Jin Ki-Joo and the powerhouse that is Kim Shin-Rok. The trio makes for great casting and they’re supported by many amazing talents too making this very much anticipated.

The script is written by Im Young-Bin whose forte is this. His dramas focus on justice, police and such. On 1^st viewing, I wonder just how much this setting can handle, and by that I mean to what degree will our screenwriter be able to adequately fill the run time.

To me, the script’s style needs a distinct type of fast paced writing and it seems the screenwriter will back themselves into a corner sooner than later because the drama’s not only moving at a fast pace, but will soon have little ground to move as the tensions heightens.

12 episodes is a lot of episodes and because the character of Hae-Seong is written like that, it makes me wonder if the character can even handle being inside the school for like 3 to 4 more episodes. I am assuming the majority of the drama’s run time will be set in school and the last two episodes to likely divert from that.

I don’t know whether its intentional on the writer’s part or not but Hae-Seong is not exactly the sharpest NIS agent. He’s fast, diligent and strong but he’s very lacking in the spying area which he’s supposed to cover. He makes so many mistakes that you’d think NIS agents would be trained to avoid. This includes removing his mask once he entered that building, not using gloves and so much more. I was having fun watching it, but if the screenwriter wants us to take Hae-Seong as an agent seriously, he’s failed so far because the dude draws so much attention to himself just by existing, and I am not even getting into his temper or character.

To me, at this rate, it seems Hae-Seong will be figured out sooner than later.

This could be intentional like I said before on the writer’s part. I could see it happening that the chairwoman [Kim Shin-Rok] finds this out and waits until he figures out where the gold is so he can get it and then she takes it from him but even then I wonder how this exact plot can fill up 10 episodes.

Overall, this is my biggest worry after watching the drama. Aside from that, I had lots of fun watching it and I hope it does well.

Kim Shin-Rok is always perfect as a villain and I am so ready to hate her character in this drama. She makes me so angry when she plays villain roles, gotta love her.
