Beloved Comedian Jung Sehyup Unexpectedly Passes Away At 41, Industry In Shock

Comedian Jung Sehyup, known for his dog character “Chow Chow” on the SBS comedy program “People Searching for Laughter,” has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 41.

The sudden news of Jung Sehyup’s death has come as a great shock to his acquaintances. According to reports from colleagues and people close to him, he was spending time with a friend on the day of his death when he suddenly experienced chest pain and difficulty breathing, prompting him to visit a nearby emergency room.

A close acquaintance told SBS Entertainment News, “While he was speaking with the doctor in the emergency room, he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. Despite immediate CPR and other emergency procedures, he couldn’t be revived,” expressing deep sorrow.

Adding to the tragedy, Jung had previously battled leukemia for over five years and was declared fully recovered after undergoing a bone marrow transplant in 2015.

After a long hiatus following “People Searching for Laughter,” he made a return to the public comedy stage last April through KBS’s “Gag Concert,” bringing laughter back to audiences. He had even attended the funeral of senior comedian Jeon Yooseong just two weeks ago, appearing in good health — making the news of his passing even more heartbreaking for his colleagues.

His wake has been set up at Hanbaeksan Funeral Home in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. The funeral will be held on October 9 at 7:40 a.m., and he will be laid to rest at Hanbaeksan Memorial Park.
