Famous K-pop Idol Reveals Reason Behind Departure From Biggest Variety Show
Super Junior’s Kim Heechul has opened up about why he stepped away from “Knowing Bros” after 11 years on the show.
On the 1st, the YouTube channel “Aegyonam Swings” uploaded a video titled “The Idol Who Almost Became the First to Join a Control Diss Battle, Super Star Kim Heechul.”
In the video, when asked why he left “Knowing Bros,” Kim Heechul explained, “‘Knowing Bros’ films every Thursday. Last year, while we were doing Super Junior’s 20th anniversary tour, our concerts were usually Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so there were times I had to skip the Thursday ‘Knowing Bros’ filming, or times where they had to film twice because of me.”
He continued, “Kang Ho Dong always puts the viewers first. Whether I’m tired, or my leg is broken, or I have a cold, what matters to him is the audience’s trust. Meeting him changed my whole broadcasting mindset a lot.”
He especially expressed his respect by sharing a phrase Kang Ho Dong often said. “By 4 a.m., everyone’s exhausted, but Ho Dong hyung always says, ‘No, it’s 4 a.m. for us, but it’s 6 p.m. for the viewers,'” he recalled. “Hearing that, I realized he was completely right.”
Kim Heechul also spoke candidly about his income during his Super Junior days. Jang Ji Soo asked, “So it’s split 13 ways? That must’ve been really hard.” Kim Heechul responded, “Back then, honestly, doing broadcasts was basically a loss.” He added, “It wasn’t more than other groups made, but it was enough to get by.” He went on to admit, “Once I started earning on my own through ‘Knowing Bros,’ I actually made more than I did during Super Junior” — a confession that caught people’s attention.
