Popular Kpop Idol Reveals He Accidentally Overheard People Badmouth Him for 40 MINUTES
SHINee member Key opened up about a painful experience where he had no choice but to overhear people badmouthing him.
On the most recent broadcast of the ENA variety show “Salon de Ddol: You’re So Talkative”, Key appeared alongside Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon and BTOB’s Lee Changsub, engaging in conversations about relationships, work life, and human connections.
During the show, Key shared, “Back in the day, I went to a room bar and overheard people in the next room talking bad about me.” Hyoyeon asked, “And you didn’t know at first?” to which Key replied, “I didn’t.”
He continued, “There were about four or five women in their 20s to 30s. I was quietly drinking and chatting with a friend. I still remember everything. It was in Itaewon. I could never forget it.”
Key explained, “I think it was a birthday party. At first, they were talking about fun stuff, then the topic shifted to public broadcast variety shows. Then I Live Alone on MBC came up. One person said they liked me, and then another really came at that, strongly disagreeing. Just among themselves. And as the drinks flowed, their debate got heated, while my friend and I just stayed silent.”
He added, “They were saying things like, ‘His tone is so rude,’ just on the other side of a thin wall. It was so raw — I heard exactly the level of things people say when they assume you’re not there. And hearing it that close… it really wasn’t easy.”
Hyoyeon sympathized, saying, “Yeah, that’s not easy.” Lee Changsub commented, “I’ve never overheard something like that.” Hyoyeon added, “Should’ve cracked the door open just a bit,” and Key responded, “I was seriously debating whether to or not. Because they were going at it about me for a good 40 minutes.”
Meanwhile, Key is set to make a solo comeback on August 11 with his 3rd full-length album HUNTER, which includes the title track “HUNTER” and a total of 10 songs.
