5 Times Top Stars Apologized After Being Caught Smoking Indoors
With the recent news of BLACKPINK’s Jennie issuing an apology for smoking indoors, netizens have revisited other instances where famous Kpop idols or actors issued apologies for smoking indoors.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie
A recent viral clip of BLACKPINK’s Jennie vaping has caught the attention of netizens all around the world!
Recently, Jennie published a video to her YouTube channel. In the video, eagle-eyed fans noticed she was smoking an e-cigarette in the waiting room before the rehearsal of an Italian fashion show and was blowing smoke towards the staff.
As the issue grew bigger, calls were made for the idol to speak up and clarify as some fans began to claim it was not vape but a diffuser, eventually, Jennie’s agency OA Entertainment issued an apology and admitted to the fact that Jennie was smoking indoors.
They said, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on the 2nd. Jennie acknowledges & deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. Jennie has personally apologized to all the staff on-site who may have been affected. We apologize to her fans who have been disappointed through this incident. We hope to prevent this from reoccurring in the future.”
NCT’s Haechan
In January of this year, NCT‘s Haechan was caught smoking an electronic cigarette indoors in a video uploaded on NCT 127’s official YouTube channel. After the controversy arose, the scene was deleted, and his agency, SM Entertainment, quickly issued an apology.
He also ended up paying a fine.
SM Entertainment stated, “We confirmed that Haechan used an electronic cigarette indoors in the choreography practice content released the previous day. We plan to pay the fine imposed by the local health center for this matter. We deeply apologize for causing concern with our careless behavior and will be more careful to prevent such incidents in the future.”
Ji Chang Wook
Similarly, In February of this year, Actor Ji Chang Wook faced criticism after a video of him smoking an electronic cigarette during a rehearsal for the JTBC drama “Welcome to Samdalri” spread. Ji Chang Wook was seen smoking while rehearsing with actors Shin Hye Sun, Lee Jae Won, and Bae Myung Jin, leading to accusations of inconsideration towards his colleagues.
Ji Chang Wook’s agency issued an apology, saying, “We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Ji Chang Wook’s actions. A scene of him using an electronic cigarette indoors was included in the making content. We apologize for causing discomfort with the inappropriate scene. Ji Chang Wook acknowledges that it was improper behavior and regrets disappointing many people. We deeply apologize to the viewers, staff, and cast members who supported the project.”
EXO’s D.O.
EXO member and actor D.O., also known as Do Kyung Soo, was reported for indoor smoking in a music show waiting room, as shown in EXO’s self-produced content last year.
Netizens filed complaints, and the Mapo-gu Health Center stated, “Do Kyung Soo’s indoor smoking at the broadcast station is a violation of the smoking ban, and despite the claim that the electronic cigarette contained no nicotine, the components could not be verified. A fine was imposed on Do Kyung Soo.”
The health center added that Do Kyung Soo has pledged to adhere to the law as a public figure.
Lim Young Woong
Singer Lim Young Woong also caused controversy for smoking indoors during the 2021 “Mister Trot” concert in Busan.
Through his agency, he apologized, saying, “I caused great disappointment and pain to my fans. I should have acted with responsibility at all times, but I was lacking. I sincerely apologize for causing concern. I will take this as a lesson, reflect, and strive to become a more mature person. I will deeply engrave the criticisms and admonishments in my heart.”
