“Boys II Planet” Trainee Kim Geon Woo Issues Apology Following Controversy, Says Not Every Accusation Is True, But He Apologizes For His Wrongdoings
Kim Geon Woo, who is appearing on the audition program “Boys II Planet,” has issued an apology after becoming embroiled in a personality controversy.
Kim Geon Woo faced controversy when, ahead of the show’s first broadcast, a post exposing his past behavior spread on social media on July 16. Although the post did not mention his name directly, it quickly spread through online communities, and netizens pointed out Kim Geon Woo as the individual in question.
The poster claimed that Kim Geon Woo, during his time as a trainee at B Entertainment, was favored by high-ranking staff members and used this favoritism to look down on or act rudely toward others. The post also alleged that he skipped dance lessons to drink or travel to Japan with team leaders and directors and even raised suspicions of embezzling company funds during that time.
In response, on the 21st of July, he posted a handwritten letter through the official social media of his current agency WAKEONE, stating, “I sincerely apologize without any excuse for the words and actions that hurt and troubled many people.”
He continued, “At the time, I was going through a difficult period in my role as the team leader. In my efforts to lead my fellow trainees with a sense of responsibility and pressure to do well, I acted immaturely and poorly.”
He also said, “I once again apologize to the public who had to come across unpleasant news because of me. I will take this as a lesson and strive to become a better and more mature person.”
However, Kim Geon Woo made it clear that not all of the allegations were true. He said, “There are many distorted parts in the contents of the post,” but added, “After much thought, I decided it was more appropriate to sincerely apologize for my wrongdoings rather than to differentiate between what is true and what isn’t.”
“Boys II Planet,” which aired its first episode on the 17th, is the follow-up to “Boys Planet,” which aired in 2023. A total of 160 contestants who dream of becoming a boy group are participating, and the show is divided into the Korean version “Boys II Planet K” and the Chinese version “Boys II Planet C.” Kim Geon Woo garnered attention as the center of Group K.
