Seoul’s City Says Around 40,0000 Attended BTS’s Gwanghwamun Concert, Big Hit Says Over 104,000 Attended
Last night bathed in purple, Gwanghwamun Square echoed with “Arirang.” BTS marked a new page in K-pop history and made their 1st official concert in several years.
BTS held their comeback live show “BTS Comeback Live: ARIANG” at 8 PM on the 21st of March at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Returning after about 3 years and 9 months, they performed tracks from their 5th full album “Arirang” as well as hit songs like “Dynamite” and “Butter” over the course of an hour.
The concert was held to celebrate the release of BTS’s 5th full album “Arirang,” and performances of new songs, including the title track “SWIM,” were revealed for the first time.
In addition to about 22,000 attendees who secured free tickets through advance reservations, tens of thousands more gathered at the site. Seoul’s City said that around 40K people attended including 15K personnel who included firefighters, police, and more. The concert was also broadcast live to 190 countries worldwide via Netflix.
Meanwhile, Big Hit said that the concert had an audience of approximately 104,000 people. According to the agency, this figure is an estimate based on the number of existing ticket reservations, the number of users using the three major telecom carriers and budget phones in the Gwanghwamun area during the performance, and the number of foreign spectators.
After a long hiatus, BTS declared they would keep moving forward, signaling the beginning of a new second chapter.
Meanwhile, HYBE has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused by the concert.
