Korean Singer Chancellor Arrested Alongside Producer of Japanese Girl Group Over Alleged Drug Possession
Amid reports that Simon Jacobs (39), CEO of the entertainment agency XGALX and a former member of the group Dalmatian, who is currently active as the producer of the popular Japanese girl group XG, was arrested in Japan on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act, it has been revealed that one of the individuals arrested alongside him is Chancellor (39, real name Kim Jung Seung), a producer and singer-songwriter under XGALX.
According to local media outlets including Jiji Press on the 24th of February, Chancellor was caught in the act and arrested along with Simon and others in the early morning of the previous day at a hotel room in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, on suspicion of possessing cocaine. It is reported that a total of four people were at the scene, including the two men and two employees of a local entertainment agency.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department reportedly received an anonymous tip in March of last year and conducted an internal investigation for about a year before making the arrests. Police seized several bags of cocaine and one bag of dried marijuana at the scene and are currently investigating how the drugs were obtained and whether there was any conspiracy involved.
Simon, who has a Korean father and a Japanese mother, began gaining recognition in 2009 by participating in MC Mong’s fifth album track “Luv Duv.” In 2012, he was active under the stage name Simon as a member of Dalmatian. He has worked as a producer since 2014 and founded the agency XGALX in 2018, where he currently serves as executive producer. XGALX is currently home to the group XG, Chancellor, and Hikaru.
Chancellor, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, was active as a member of the producing team Duble Sidekick. He married a flight attendant three years younger than him in 2022 and welcomed a daughter in October last year. In 2022, he became the first Korean singer to appear on “GRAMMY Reimagined at Home,” hosted by the Recording Academy in the United States.
In relation to this incident, XGALX released a statement saying, “We take seriously the concern caused by the news of the arrest of our producers.”
XGALX added, “The specific details related to the case have not yet been confirmed. We are doing our best to verify the facts and are cooperating faithfully with the investigation process. Once the accurate facts are clarified, we will promptly and transparently release an additional statement. We apologize for causing concern and discomfort.”
