Choi Minhwan Goes To Dispatch To Explain Why Ex-Wife Yulhee Was At Fault For Their Divorce, Interview Gains Backlash + Yulhee’s Brief Response

The ongoing dispute between FTISLAND’s Choi Minhwan and his ex-wife Yulhee has reignited following allegations made by Choi regarding the reasons for their divorce. Choi cited Yulhee’s frequent absences from home and irregular sleeping patterns, while Yulhee has dismissed these claims as baseless and plans to address the matter in court.

According to Star News on January 14, Yulhee has firmly denied the allegations Choi Min Hwan made during an interview with Dispatch on January 13. In the interview, Choi stated that their divorce was not due to his alleged visits to entertainment establishments but rather Yulhee’s “abnormal sleeping habits” and frequent absences from home.

Choi claimed that Yulhee slept for 18–20 hours a day and would leave home without notice, staying at her parents’ house for days or even up to 10 days at a time. However, Yulhee’s side refuted these claims, stating, “The idea that she only spent 4 hours a day awake is simply unreasonable.” They also argued that referring to her taking the children to her parents’ house amid marital disputes as “running away” was inappropriate. Furthermore, they denied accusations of neglecting childcare responsibilities.

Minhwan’s interview with Dispatch was met with more backlash than sympathy as many showed shock at how the idol attempted to frame her at fault because she slept longer hours during some days without looking into why she slept this long. Dispatch was also criticized for facilitating this interview.

Initially, Yulhee had planned to issue an official statement but decided against engaging in a public dispute, citing concerns over public fatigue and the baseless nature of Choi’s claims. Her side clarified that a recent video uploaded to her YouTube channel, “Yulhee’s House,” was pre-scheduled and unrelated to the controversy.

Yulhee, who is currently focused on securing custody of their children, has chosen to address these matters in court rather than in the public sphere. She has reportedly filed legal claims for custody modification, alimony, and asset division at the Seoul Family Court. Yulhee is also considering pursuing legal action against Choi Minhwan for violating family litigation law, which prohibits disclosing personal details related to ongoing family court cases in the media.

Choi Minhwan and Yulhee were married in 2018 and share three children. They announced their divorce in December 2023, with Choi receiving custody of their children. Previously, Yulhee had released recordings accusing Choi of visiting entertainment establishments during their marriage. Choi was investigated for solicitation and sexual misconduct but was cleared due to insufficient evidence.
