(G)I-DLE Explain Why They Changed Their Name To i-dle
The group ‘(G)I-DLE’ is opening a new chapter under the name ‘i-dle (아이들).’
On the 1st of May, the group announced via their official social media channels that they are changing their group name from ‘(G)I-DLE’ to ‘i-dle’ as they mark their 7th debut anniversary since their debut on May 2, 2018.
They have removed the elements ‘(여자)’ and ‘G’ from their previous group name, thereby reestablishing their identity as a group that cannot be defined by ‘woman,’ ‘gender,’ or any specific gender category. By removing the parentheses—often used to distinguish or emphasize—they’re signaling a move toward boundless music and concepts.
A new logo and symbol were also revealed. The logo, spelled in lowercase as ‘i d l e,’ expands from a circular form using the design principles of points, lines, and planes to symbolize the group’s infinite potential and organic connections. The symbol formed by five “i”s arranged into a star shape represents how the five distinct members unite to become one integrated group—i-dle.
After all members renewed their contracts with CUBE Entertainment in December of last year, this bold rebranding reflects more than a name change—it signals a leap toward greater ambitions.
i-dle has been loved for hits like “LATATA,” “Oh my god,” “DUMDi DUMDi,” “HWAA,” “TOMBOY,” “Nxde,” and “Queencard.” Last year, their second full-length album “2” and its title track “Super Lady” topped music charts both domestically and internationally, while the B-side “Fate” sparked a resurgence in popularity.
