IVE Delays Promotional Material Release, Kyungsoo’s Movie Cancels Press Conference And More After Jeju Air Deadly Crash
The Korean entertainment industry is canceling or delaying events due to the recent crash of a Jeju Air flight earlier today.
On the 29th of December, IVE’s agency, Starship Entertainment, announced via their official account, “We would like to inform you that the promotion schedule for IVE’s 3rd EP ‘IVE EMPATHY,’ originally scheduled for release today (29th) and tomorrow (30th), has been postponed. The updated schedule will be announced later.”
Additionally, The production briefing for the movie “Secret: Untold Melody” has been officially canceled.
The production team announced, “We inform you of the cancellation of the production briefing originally scheduled for December 30. The event, which was set to take place at 11 a.m. at Megabox COEX, will not proceed.”
Earlier that morning, a Jeju Air passenger plane crashed at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province. Of the 181 passengers onboard, 176 fatalities have been confirmed, with two survivors—both crew members—rescued.
In light of the tragedy, various events have been canceled, including the “2024 MBC Entertainment Awards” scheduled to be held later today.
In response to the shocking accident, major broadcasters, including terrestrial networks, are focusing their coverage on special news reports.
KBS has canceled its weekend entertainment programs such as 2 Days & 1 Night, and Gag Concert, replacing them with alternative programming. MBC has canceled The King of Mask Singer, while JTBC has postponed Please Take Care of My Refrigerator and rescheduled an interview with director Woo Min Ho and actor Hyun Bin about the movie Harbin on Newsroom.
Discussions are now underway regarding the status of other year-end events, including the “MBC Drama Awards” on December 30, the “MBC Gayo Daejejeon” on December 31, as well as the SBS “Entertainment Awards” and KBS “Drama Awards.”
