The Shocking Story Of A Past Assault Allegation Against Jessi Resurface As Singer Wraps Up Police Investigation
Singer Jessi (36, real name Ho Hyun-joo) is facing renewed controversy after an incident where a minor fan was assaulted while requesting a photo. This has also brought attention back to a past assault case Jessi was involved in.
In May 2013, Jessi was entangled in an assault incident at a women’s restroom in a club in Itaewon, Seoul. The victim, a Korean-American named A, claimed, “Even then, Jessi claimed that the perpetrator had left the country, which is very similar to what’s happening now.”
A had filed a group assault lawsuit against Jessi and two of her friends, stating, “I encountered them in the club restroom, and I allowed them to go in first. But Jessi and her friends picked a fight for no reason and assaulted me.” Jessi, who was booked without detention, denied the allegations, claiming, “I didn’t take part in the assault, and I was only trying to stop the fight between A and my friend.”
With conflicting claims, the case dragged on until A eventually withdrew the charges and left the country. Some media outlets reported that, by withdrawing the charges, A had indirectly acknowledged that Jessi had not participated in the assault.
After this controversy died down, Jessi continued her activities. In 2015, during Mnet’s Unpretty Rapstar, a rapper brought up the incident, saying to Jessi, “The place that suits you is Itaewon. Everyone knows about your notorious behavior,” referencing the previous assault case.
Recently, on September 29, Jessi was involved in another assault incident in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul. The minor victim accused B, the person who assaulted them, along with Jessi and three others, of assault. The victim, who was a fan of Jessi, had approached her to request a photo, but a man in Jessi’s entourage assaulted the fan. Jessi tried to stop the altercation and then left the scene. The police were later called by the victim.
Jessi claimed that she did not know the assailant, B, who she said was a Chinese national and is no longer in Korea.
In response to this incident, the victim from the assault case 11 years ago, A, spoke on JTBC’s Case Chief on the 16th, saying, “Jessi’s attitude towards this incident is very similar to what happened back then. Jessi never admitted that she didn’t hit me. She definitely hit me.” A explained that they were preparing to leave for the U.S. for work reasons at the time, and since it was difficult to leave the country while the lawsuit was ongoing, they were forced to withdraw the charges.
A added, “If there had been no CCTV footage this time, Jessi would have claimed that she wasn’t involved, just like before.” A also commented, “Jessi’s team claims that the perpetrator has left the country, just like what they said in the past.”
On the 12th, Jessi issued an apology through her social media, stating, “An unfortunate incident occurred where a fan was suddenly assaulted by a person I had met for the first time that day. Regardless of the circumstances, I deeply regret that my fan was harmed, and I feel a moral responsibility.”
Jessi appeared at the police station on the 16th, saying, “I hope they quickly find the person who hit the fan and punish them. I will tell everything truthfully today.” She reaffirmed that she had never met the assailant before and expressed her sincere apologies to the victim.
