BTS Jungkook Issues An Apology After Getting Backlash Due To Wearing a Controversial Hat
Around 2 days after his discharge, BTS Jungkook found himself in trouble for what he wore during an event, unexpectedly receiving backlash from netizens.
The issue happened after a photo of Jungkook wearing a hat went viral. The hat had ‘Make Tokyo Great Again’ written on it, and because of this, some of the fans and netizens began criticizing Jungkook for what the hat symbolizes. Many asked why Jungkook would wear such a hat.
Jungkook was photographed during rehearsals for his 1st official schedule following his military discharge. Jungkook made a guest appearance on J-hope’s concert in Seoul earlier today and performed in front of fans for the 1st time in a while.
‘Make Tokyo Great Again’ originates from Trump’s infamous “Make America Great Again,” and such phrasing is linked to the Korean right-wing or right-wing factions in other countries in general.
‘Make Tokyo Great Again’ has also been used by Tokyo’s governor Koike Yuriko who also frequently mentions putting the city of Tokyo first similarly to what Trump alleges he does with America. The Tokyo governor alleged ties to groups that refuse to acknowledge issues like massacres against the Koreans committed by the Japanese made the situation look worse for Jungkook.
Additionally, the brand that makes the hat went to Instagram to hype up Jungkook and said he helped sell out the cap, captioning with “No stock.”

Hello, this is Jungkook.
It weighs heavily on my heart to be writing this after meeting you all again after such a long time.
I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and discomfort to many people due to the phrase written on the hat I wore during today’s rehearsal.
I deeply acknowledge that I failed to properly check the historical and political meaning behind the phrase before wearing it, and that my lack of awareness caused disappointment and hurt.
I am simply sorry.
There is no excuse for any reason. It was my fault, and I was careless.
From now on, I will think more carefully and act with greater consideration in everything I do.
I humbly accept all the criticism and concerns regarding my mistake.
The hat has been immediately discarded.
Once again, I sincerely apologize.
Meanwhile, Jungkook was discharged from the military on June 11 along with Jimin.
