Famous Korean Trot Singer Indirectly Addresses His Remarks About South Korea’s Recent Political Turmoil
Singer Lim Young Woong broke his silence 20 days after his DM controversy and indirectly expressed his stance.
On the 27th of December, Lim Young Woong held his solo concert at the Gocheok Sky Dome.
Before the performance, Lim Young Woong stated, “I am someone who sings. I aim to bring joy, comfort, and happiness through my songs. I will strive to show a better, more improved version of myself.”
He also apologized to his fans, saying, “I’m sorry for causing you concern and worry,” and added, “To all Hero Generation fans, I sincerely thank and love you.”
Lim Young Woong, who has over 400,000 followers, recently became embroiled in controversy after a direct message (DM) exchange was leaked.
On the 3rd of December, Lim Young Woong posted a message on his personal account celebrating his dog’s birthday amid the political turmoil surrounding President Yoon Suk Yeol’s emergency martial law. A netizen sent him a DM saying, “What are you doing in this situation?” to which Lim Young Woong replied, “What is it?”
When the netizen further criticized him, saying, “The entire nation is gathering around the impeachment of a president who declared martial law unconstitutionally. We don’t expect you to voice your opinion, but your indifference is appalling. Isn’t your main audience people who lived through martial law?” Lim Young Woong responded, “Am I a politician? Why should I speak out?” This reply sparked intense debate.
Initially, it was reported that the DM was sent by a popular variety show producer. However, the producer clarified that they had never sent any messages to Lim Young Woong.
Although the original poster deleted the post, neither Lim Young Woong nor his agency has issued an official statement regarding the controversy.
As a result, public criticism continued to grow.
