After Singer Receives Backlash For Sharing Video Of Kpop Idol’s Wedding, It Was Revealed To Be A Misunderstanding
The controversy surrounding the “private wedding” of MBLAQ’s Mir turned out to stem not from secrecy, but from a misunderstanding.
Previously, Mir held a wedding to his non-celebrity wife. After the wedding, a well-known singer named Kim Jang Hoon posted a video of it, without blurring the bride’s face. This led to controversy as netizens criticized him for not blurring the bride’s face, who is a non-celebrity, calling the wedding a private event.
After the backlash grew, Kim Jang Hoon posted a lengthy handwritten apology regarding the exposure of Mir’s wedding video, stating, “I never dreamed it would be private. Even if I get criticized, I have nothing to say.”
As debate spread over the wedding of the idol, his older sister Go Eun Ah stepped forward to explain the situation and correct misinformation. In the process, Kim Jang Hoon’s apology—after he had taken on all the criticism—unexpectedly reignited public attention, leading Mir and Go Eun Ah to top Naver’s real-time search rankings for the first time since their debut.
Recently, a video titled “The ‘Private Wedding’ Controversy — I Spoke Directly with Kim Jang Hoon” was uploaded to the YouTube channel run by Go Eun Ah (Bang Hyo Jin).
In the video, Go Eun Ah clearly stated, “Mir’s wedding was not private. We never once said it was private.” She went on to explain, “Chul Yong was on his honeymoon, so he found out about this situation late.”
Regarding why reporters did not attend the wedding, she speculated, “I think it was out of consideration for the bride, who is a non-celebrity. That consideration seems to have gradually turned into the phrase ‘private wedding.’”
Go Eun Ah also shared a conversation she had with her younger brother Mir, recounting it with a laugh. According to her, Mir said, “It’s just that I’m not popular enough for reporters to come, so I don’t know why it turned into a ‘private wedding. I feel so sorry that hyung ended up getting criticized for no reason.”
However, as Go Eun Ah’s explanation came to light, it became clearer that the controversy was not the result of intentional wrongdoing or rudeness, but rather a combination of miscommunication and misunderstanding.
