The objection filed by the five NewJeans members against the court’s decision to grant the injunction was not accepted either.

On the 16th of April, the Civil Agreement Division 50 of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Sang Hoon) ruled on the injunction objection filed by the NewJeans members, stating, “Even after reviewing the claims and supporting materials that the debtors have repeatedly emphasized through this objection, the court finds the previous injunction decision to be valid,” thereby upholding the earlier decision to grant the injunction. This basically prevents the group from pursuing activities during their legal battle with ADOR.

Previously, on the 21st of last month, the court had fully accepted ADOR’s request for a provisional injunction against the NewJeans members, which aimed to preserve ADOR’s position as their agency and prohibit the signing of separate advertising contracts.

Meanwhile, in response to the court’s dismissal of their objection, the five NewJeans members, through their legal representative Law Firm Sejong, immediately filed an appeal. This appeal will be reviewed by a high court.

The five NewJeans members had notified their agency ADOR of contract termination in November of last year and began pursuing independent activities. As part of this, they promoted themselves under the name “NJZ” (NewJeans), and even sought appearances in paid overseas performances. However, the court accepted the provisional injunction which focuses on prohibiting independent entertainment activities, putting a sudden halt to their plans.

In addition to the ongoing legal battle over the injunction, the five NewJeans members are also entangled in the main lawsuit, where ADOR is seeking confirmation of the validity of their exclusive contracts.
