SEVENTEEN member Hoshi, currently serving his mandatory military service, will undergo surgery after suffering a knee injury. With the injury coming roughly six months before his scheduled discharge, fans’ concerns are growing.

Hoshi personally shared the news of his injury through the fan community platform Weverse on September 12th. He greeted fans, writing, “Hello, Carats. This news might come as a bit of a shock, so I’m writing this carefully,” before explaining his current situation.

Hoshi wrote, “I got examined after injuring my knee during practice with the Army performance team, and I was diagnosed with a complete tear of my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). Because of this, I’ll need to focus on recovery for a while after surgery, so I won’t be able to take part in the scheduled Taekwondo Demonstration Team event and the Ground Forces Festival.”

Due to the injury, Hoshi will be sitting out the performance schedule he had originally been preparing for. In particular, the Ground Forces Festival stage is one he had been especially looking forward to, having passed the audition to perform alongside fellow SEVENTEEN member Woozi.

Back in July, Hoshi had shared his excitement about the performance on Weverse, writing, “Hoshi and Woozi passed the Ground Forces Festival audition. Maybe it’s because we re-signed our contract,” adding, “Ah, I’m so excited.”

This year’s Ground Forces Festival is set to take place from October 1st to 5th at the Gyeryongdae runway in Chungcheongnam-do, featuring military band and honor guard performances, Taekwondo demonstrations, and stages by Army performance teams. As of September 12th, when Hoshi shared the injury news, the event was about 19 days away.

Hoshi also expressed his disappointment at not being able to take the stage as planned.

He wrote, “These were stages I was really looking forward to and had worked hard preparing for, so I’m really disappointed that I can’t be part of them, and I feel sorry to the Carats who were looking forward to it too. Even though I won’t be there, please cheer on the Taekwondo Demonstration Team and the Army performance team that Ji Hoon will be part of.”

He also made sure to reassure his worried fans, adding, “I’ll get treated properly and focus on recovering so I can come back healthy soon. Please don’t worry too much!”

Hoshi enlisted as an active-duty soldier in the Army on September 16th of last year. He was later selected in January of this year to join the newly formed Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team, where he has been serving since, taking part in national events and performances showcasing Taekwondo demonstrations and performance pieces.

Hoshi has shared glimpses of his Taekwondo Demonstration Team activities through official Army channels, drawing attention for his participation in events including the 107th March 1st Movement commemorative cultural event and the National Museum of Korea’s performing arts festival.

A complete ACL tear, the diagnosis Hoshi received, refers to a full rupture of one of the key ligaments that stabilizes the knee joint. Recovery typically requires a certain period of time before returning to daily activities after surgery, and a longer rehabilitation process is generally needed before resuming exercise or strenuous activity.

Since the injury occurred during his military service, attention is also turning to how it may affect his remaining service schedule. In cases of surgery for a complete ACL tear, service members can become subject to a medical discharge review depending on their military physical grade and treatment progress. However, Hoshi’s specific service status and schedule going forward will depend on the results of any such review.

Additionally, as Hoshi has served as the leader of SEVENTEEN’s performance team, actively participating in choreography and performance composition, there is also interest in how this injury may affect the team’s future activities.

Meanwhile, Hoshi’s scheduled discharge date is March 15th, 2027.
