Former NCT Member Taeil Indicted Without Detention On Charges Of Quasi-Rape

Former NCT member Taeil has been indicted without detention on charges of sexual assault.

According to a report by The Korea Times on March 4, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women’s and Children’s Crime Investigation Division 1 (headed by Kim Ji Hye) recently brought Taeil (real name Moon Taeil) and two accomplices to trial on charges of aggravated quasi-rape under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

They were accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was intoxicated in June last year. Since two or more individuals committed the crime together against a victim in a state of helplessness, the charge of aggravated quasi-rape was applied.

The Seoul Bangbae Police Station applied for arrest warrants for the three suspects after receiving the victim’s report, but the court dismissed them, stating that the suspects admitted to the crime and thus did not require detention.

As a result, the police summoned Taeil for questioning in August and referred the case to the prosecution in September. He was recently indicted. It is reported that Taeil did not attend the prosecution’s investigation, citing health reasons.

Meanwhile, Taeil debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT’s first unit, NCT U, and was active in NCT and NCT 127.

Previously, SM issued a statement to its Twitter account to announce that Taeil has been implicated in a “criminal case related to sexual crimes.” SM said that after they looked into the situation and realized the severity of the matter, they’ve removed Taeil from NCT and will no longer carry out group activities.

Later, it was reported that Taeil was being investigated for quasi rape along with two other people. SM also terminated his exclusive contract.
