In ‘say whaaaaaaaat’ news today, I have this shocking thing to talk about.

MAMAMOO’s Hwasa appeared on the most recent episode of MBC’s “Radio Star,” she talked about various topics and one of the topics that got a lot of attention from fans was when netizens wanted Hwasa to leave her group because she was ‘ugly.’

During their debut era, the girls showed various charms and blew people’s minds with their talents, however, some netizens called Hwasa ugly and told her to leave her group because ‘she wasn’t pretty enough.’

Hwasa told the MCs,

“A lot of people complained about the way I look. They said things like ‘how can she be in a girl group?’ They wanted me to leave the group.

At the time, a lot of people also didn’t like my gestures on stage, they thought it was weird.”

Confident Hwasa revealed she wasn’t discouraged by the bad opinions and instead used them to motivate herself to show the best side of herself to those netizens who said bad things about her.

She credit netizens saying,

“I was able to become stronger because of those comments. It motivated me to turn their opinions around.”

MAMAMOO debuted in the summer of 2014 and their debut is considered by many critics to be one of the best Kpop debut albums of 2014.

Hwasa is going strong to her 5th year as an idol; she has captured the public with her strong stage presence, her amazing voice and entertainment skills. She’s one of the most popular girl group members and usually tops brand reputation rankings.

She is currently preparing for her solo debut; I wish her all the success in the world!

My Thoughts

Hwasa doesn’t really fit into the Korean beauty standards. If you think she’s hot or not is up to you, nor I or anyone else can force you to think otherwise, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

However, to tell someone to leave a group simply because they don’t fit beauty standards you’re used to is a new level of low.

There is a huge difference between criticizing dancing/singing/acting or criticizing someone’s looks, you don’t control the environment you’re born to or the way you look, people coming after someone for the environment they were born to or their looks is just low.

I like her approach to haters who have nothing better to do than to comment such nasty things. She’s hella talented, has great stage presence and will go on to lead a successful career, those haters can suck it!

  1. Please stop this hwasa is so beautiful and amayzing singer and person inside and outside i mean why some people don’t accept the difference in korea why this complexity plus hwasa is so so so gorgeous we can not deny this her confidence her presence so please stop these things and judgements hwasa stay strong as always cause you have a such a enormous fame all over the world and your fans will support you until the end we love mamamoo we love you

  2. These netizens need to STFU, because hwasa is queen, lik YOU BLIND? Which part of her is unattractive? Like wtf. Is she’s not attractive, then what even am I?

  3. Hwasa is definitely very visually different from her group members, and she’s far from the Korean standard. But even I, someone who doesn’t like mamamoo or hwasa, thinks it’s completely wild to tell her to leave the group. She and all the members make up Mamamoo, without her it would never be the same. She’s one of the most vocally talented idols of this generation, and her unusual visuals make her very recognizable. Once again, even though I dislike her, I admire her confidence. She knows she’s not “pretty” to Korean standards, yet she doesn’t seem to care, I would die to not care about what people think of me. She takes others negative opinions and betters herself off them. A genuinely talented, beautiful woman who deserves her spot in Mamamoo and as a trendsetter with a confident personality.
