Hong Jong Hyun Talks About Replacing Yoon Ji On Following His Drunk Driving Incident, “It Would Be A Lie To Say I Felt No Pressure”
Actor Hong Jong Hyun shared his thoughts on joining “Positively Yours” midway, replacing Yoon Ji On, who stepped down due to a drunk driving incident.
The production presentation for Channel A’s new Saturday–Sunday drama “Positively Yours” was held on the 13th of January at 2 p.m. at The Link Hotel in Sindorim, Seoul. Director Kim Jin Sung, Choi Jin Hyuk, Oh Yeon Seo, Hong Jong Hyun, and Kim Dasom attended the event.
On that day, Hong Jong Hyun said about joining the project late, “It would be a lie to say I didn’t feel pressure. I worried a lot about whether I might cause inconvenience,” adding, “Even though it wasn’t a large amount of screen time, my memories of filming together with Yeon Seo noona and the director were really good, so I had thought, ‘If I get the chance next time, I’d like to work together again.’ When this situation happened, I wondered if it was right for me to be greedy, but after meeting the director, the conclusion I came to was that ‘it’s worth trying.’”
He continued, “All I could do was prepare as hard as I could within the time I was given,” and said, “When I went to the set, everyone helped me so much, and even people who weren’t filming came to greet me. They were very considerate because they were worried I might have trouble adjusting, so I was able to do even better than what I had prepared.”
Director Kim Jin Sung said, “It was an unexpected variable for us as well, so we thought we should turn the crisis into an opportunity. In the past, while filming, we had said we wanted to shoot a romance together someday, and I thought this was an opportunity given by the heavens. It might have been an unreasonable request, but I asked actor Hong Jong Hyun. I said that it would be nice if we could overcome the crisis together, turning it into a meaningful memory. He accepted that gratefully, and I think it truly became a blessing in disguise, resulting in a better environment and higher quality.”
Regarding taking on a character completely opposite to the psychopath role he played in his previous work, Hong Jong Hyun said, “Basically, the character Min Wook is a kind, attentive, reliable friend with a warm heart who takes good care of the people around him. That setup alone stands in a completely opposite place from the character I played in my previous project. With that information in mind while acting on set, it didn’t feel particularly difficult. I think it’s because the actors I worked with helped me a lot. Honestly, on set, it felt like I was laughing and acting in a warm-toned role for the first time in a while. I think I filmed it in a really good mood.”
“Positively Yours” is a reverse-track romantic comedy about a man and a woman who believed there would be no marriage in this lifetime, but whose one-night deviation leads to unexpected events. It premieres on the 17th at 10:30 p.m.
