Lim Ji Yeon Reacts To The Backlash She Received For Clapping And Cheering On Jung Woo Sung At An Award Show
Actress Lim Ji Yeon, who faced criticism for cheering for actor Jung Woo Sung amid his private life controversy, had this to say!
Lim Ji Yeon addressed the issue during an interview recently held at a café in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, marking the conclusion of the JTBC drama “The Tale of Lady Ok.”
She remarked, “I didn’t think it would cause controversy. It never crossed my mind.” She added, “It was such a fleeting moment that it feels ambiguous to judge whether it was right or wrong.” Expressing a cautious attitude, she continued, “Given that the drama was about to be released, I was mindful in some ways.”
The controversy stems from an incident during the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards held on November 29 last year. At the time, Jung Woo Sung, who was embroiled in a private life scandal involving the revelation that he had a child with model Moon Gabi, addressed the matter on stage. He apologized, saying, “I’m sorry for causing concern and disappointment to those who’ve sent me love and support. I will bear all the criticism and take full responsibility as a father for my son.”
During his speech, Lim Ji Yeon was caught on camera raising her hand to her mouth in a cheer before applauding Jung Woo Sung. Since public sentiment towards Jung Woo Sung was largely negative at the time, Lim Ji Yeon’s actions sparked backlash. Some netizens left critical comments on her Instagram, saying, “That behavior was inappropriate given the controversy,” “I’m disappointed,” and “Is this something to applaud?”

On the opposite side, Hyeri received attention and praise for refraining from clapping for the actor. Lim Ji Yeon’s agency CEO is also Jung Woo Sung.
