Famous “Squid Game” Actress Apologizes And Reveals Whether She Was Penalized For Accidentally Spoiling The Show
Actress Park Gyu Young (32) has issued an apology regarding the spoiler controversy surrounding “Squid Game 2” and shared whether she was penalized for accidentally spoiling the show.
On July 2, Park Gyu Young sat down for an interview with Sports Chosun at a café in Jongno, Seoul, to discuss the Netflix original series Squid Game 3 (written and directed by Hwang Dong Hyuk). Before the official interview began, she stated, “I feel like I’ve shown a disappointing side of myself these past few months. I imagine many were let down. Since this is a chance to speak face-to-face, I’d like to use this opportunity to answer the questions I’ve avoided out of concern for the project.”
The controversy arose when Park Gyu Young uploaded a photo of Lee Jin Wook wearing a pink guard uniform to her personal social media account, unintentionally revealing a major spoiler related to Squid Game 3’s storyline. Many viewers expressed disappointment, believing this had prematurely revealed key plot points. Addressing this, Park said, “I believe I disappointed many with a spoiler issue on social media. I did get asked about it at the press conference, but I don’t think I gave a proper answer then, so I’m grateful to have this chance to explain now.”
She continued, “Right after I uploaded the photo, I immediately contacted the production team, the director, and Lee Jin Wook sunbae to apologize. The director told me, ‘Let’s make sure something like this never happens again.’ Even though Lee Jin Wook sunbae told me it was okay, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on how careless and immature my actions were, and how responsible I should’ve been toward the project.”
Park also shared how Lee Jin Wook reacted: “I reached out to him right after it happened. He actually joked that he was thankful for the extra attention. I felt even more sorry after hearing that and was grateful for his kindness. He was also very supportive at the press conference, and I was deeply moved and grateful.”
Park extended an apology to viewers, saying, “I want to speak without making excuses. After season 2 ended, I know there was a lot of anticipation for season 3. Unfortunately, I believe some viewers already guessed parts of the plot, including Lee Jin Wook’s survival, because of me. I want to sincerely apologize without excuse. I’ve blamed myself a lot, but more than anything, I felt overwhelming guilt toward the director and production team who crafted the story so well.”
When asked about reports of a large penalty fee from Netflix, she cautiously responded, “I can’t share details of the contract, but I can say that rather than talking about a penalty, they focused on preventing this kind of mistake in the future. There were pre-filming guidelines about avoiding leaks, but no direct mention of a penalty fee.”
Squid Game 3 follows Gi Hun, who re-enters the deadly game with a personal mission and ends up losing his closest friend. The season also explores the fate of the Front Man, who rejoined the game in secret, and the remaining survivors. Within just three days of its June 27 release, the series garnered 60.1 million viewing hours (based on watch time divided by total runtime), taking the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s global TOP 10 chart, signaling explosive worldwide popularity.

Season 3 became the first Netflix series ever to rank No. 1 in all 93 countries included in the Netflix TOP 10 rankings within its debut week. In addition, during the same week, Squid Game 2 ranked No. 3 and season 1 climbed back up to No. 6 in the global TOP 10, proving the franchise’s enduring global appeal.
