“Friendly Rivalry” has wrapped up earlier today, let us recap the finale and explain the ending!

“Friendly Rivalry” episode 16 recap
Seul-Ki runs into the swimming pool and finds Je-Yi standing up there about to jump. She then recalls when she jumped into the pool and had to be saved by Je-Yi. When she was saved, she asked Je-Yi to use her for revenge because her father is cunning and would catch onto to her unless she suggested to use Seul-Ki as a bait.
Circling back to Seul-Ki watching Je-Yi up there, she decides not to jump and goes back down, she then signals to Seul-Ki that its time to move to plan b.
Je-Yi suspects her father has an ulterior motive, he sent the hospital staff into the exam site and the nurse is not answering her phone. Je-Yi suspects Seul-Ki is in danger.
Seul-Ki meets up with Byeong-Jin and suggests they coordinate to sell the exam questions directly. She hands him a notebook with names of important people Je-Yi sold drugs to and how much.
Byeong-Jin contacts those people and offers to sell them the exam questions directly, he makes lots of money and hands some to Seul-Ki to help pay for her medical school.
In the exam site, one of Yoo Tae-Joon’s men injures himself on purpose and gets sent to the nurse office, she then slashes him and uses it as a bait to get his blood type delivered to the location so she can send the note he’s given her to Yoo Tae-Joon. She hands him the drugs which have the answers to the exam in them.
We find out that Seul-Ki and Byeong-Jin are driving the ambulance and Byeong-Jin pulls a knife on him and threatens him. Seul-Ki takes out the pills and swallows them herself when confronted by Je-Yi who asked for them. In a hospital, Yoo Tae-Joon refuses to operate on Seul-Ki to get the questions so Je-Yi does it herself. Byeong-Jin takes what he thinks is the true answers to the exam and hands it to the parents.
While Seul-Ki recovers, Je-Yi asks her dad if she and her sister were forced to do this. She mentions the murder of teacher Do Hyeok. He hands her the actual answers to the test. When she takes the test, she finds out they’re the same.
After the exam is done, Seul-Ki wakes up. She missed it. Choi Kyeong sees Ye-Ri being taken away and then threatens her caretaker with laws about child protection and such. Both have a discussion afterwards.
Seul-Ki shows up a while later and submits a withdrawal letter. The teacher says she’ll discuss it later and leaves to the class. Je-Yi scored perfectly and is the only one in her nation to have done so, thus, the press are there to document it. Seul-Ki comes in the middle of it and snatches her stuff.
At night, Yoo Tae-Joon is being interviewed live on TV about his daughter. Je-Yi shows up and takes her sister, she dresses her warmly and puts on a mobile device that live documents them both jumping into the cold water. This happens while he’s live on TV so the reporter immediately reports on that.
The police manages to retrieve the older sister but not Je-Yi. Her body is never recovered. Je-Yi had also recorded the surgery she did on Seul-Ki and had ended up exposing her dad. Photos of him doing this plus more is exposed to the press. He’s also implicated in the murder of a test committee member.
6 months later
While in jail, Yoo Tae-Joon is shown more dead bodies to identify his daughter, he’s sure she’s not dead. We find out that Ye-Ri is working part time thinking about her future. She gets scouted while working. Kyung found her calling and is studying law, she refuses to date in the meantime.
We find out that Yoo Tae-Joon has been released from jail because they couldn’t prove his murder charges and the case stalled. He’s stalking Seul-Ki’s place hoping Je-Yi would show up.
With one day left until the entrance exam again for Seul-Ki, she receives a present by her door. They’re black shoes with a korea university token, she runs outside after her to catch her but fails. She then also sees a photo when she opens the envelope. Its a photo of a location by the sea.
The camera zooms in on it and we see a skater girl, it zooms in on her as she stops by the location and removes her hat, its Je-Yi, she’s alive.
