“Genie, Make A Wish” Ending Explained

Netflix has released its new kdrama “Genie, Make A Wish” earlier today. Let us recap the finale and explain the ending!

Ka-Young burns all the belongings of Mi-Joo after her death. Bo Gyeong shows up at her house and asks her to take the money back. She asks if she stole money from her and wants her to have the money back.

Ka-Young has lunch with Min-Ji who tells her about her grandma loved her and all of that. Ka-Young knows what she’ll do. Every day she strokes the lamp hoping the genie will come out but he doesn’t.

After a period of repeatedly doing that she takes her passport and goes back to Dubai. There, she walks in the sand for hours and hours screaming for his name until he appears, wearing all black with his eyes red from crying. He begs her not to. She says she has one final wish. She wants to feel the pain her grandma felt raising her, the pain her friend felt by her side and all the hard work the village people did to help her grow into what she became.

He bows before her and talks about how pure of a soul she is. He says she’s his love and says her wish is now done. She now feels all the pain, suffering and emotions they felt raising her, she feels them all at once and cries her eyes out calling for their names.

She wanders in the desert and forgets genie even existed. Until Irem shows up and gifts her back her memories, she then cries remembering him and finds out he couldn’t even dare to kill her. She eventually dies in the desert.

The genie gets his throat slit by his brother following the commands of God. Min-Ji wraps up all the preparations for her funeral and she’s then cremated.

As Min-Ji visits her resting place one day, Ka-Young shows up before her as a jinniya. She’s explained that after a 1000s of years love to genie, she became one herself. Min-Ji immediately asks for two wishes and keeps Ka-young by her side for longer. After a while, she wishes for Ka-young to reunite with the person she misses the most. She then forgets everything and goes on with her life.

She then continues to spend her days in her home and one day, at night, the cherry blossoms look amazing and she’s drinking beer. Looking at the weather, she says ‘this is the time for it.’ and then is surprised by genie himself as he gives her a kiss. The two have reunited.

We find out that Mi-Joo/Pan Geum wished for that and pressured Ejllael to do this for her. He talks to God and gets it done. The two then are genies who get back to work for people’s wishes.

One day, the two are fighting in their home int the lamp when Genie finally is able to bring back Sade. Sade then seeks out Ejllael who asks for Irem back. She is also brought back.

Genie still works hard as one but falls for a pyramid scheme and gets scolded and hit by Ka-young.

A couple of decades later

a bunch of Korean tourists are watching a dust devil also known as a genie waltz sandstorm. We find out that Min-Ji has aged and keeps visiting Dubai to see the sandstorms. We also see the genie and Ka young dancing in it as if they’re performing for the tourists.

Genie talks about how he’s back because of her grandma who relayed a message for them to love and be with each other for as long as possible. The two genies get called and leave to do their duties.
