The inspector has a talk with Hyun Jin and Tae-Hyeong and says that based on the documents and her review, she does not think they’re fit to care for the child. The couple is devastated but the actual hearing and final screening is away so they prepare for that.
Hyun Jin takes it hard but goes back home and prepares deligently to show just how good the environment for Woo Joo is. Unfortunately, Tae-Hyeong has an important work related issue on the day of the inspection so he won’t be there.
As she’s checking for Woo Joo’s temperature on the day of the visit, she discovers that his temperature is up and he’s running a fever and she does not have medication. She kept the door to the apartment open while frantically looking for medicine and woo Joo gets out and falls on the stairs.
This happens as the inspector is on her way to see them and she immediately accuses Hyun Jin of child abuse. The kid is taken away immediately to child protective custody and separated from them. Hyun Jin cries her eyes out and is besides herself with grief. Tae-Hyeong tries assuring her everything will be alright but she’s scared and says she’s not fit to care for Woo Joo.
Hyun Jin is cared for by grandma Ae Ja who assures her everything will be fine and says that her son is not actually her son but her son-in-law. After her daughter’s death, she didn’t want to live but one day he showed up and helped her through some dark periods. She says she’s like that to Woo Joo and the court will give them the kid back.
After that Hyun Jin prepares many things to give to Woo Joo’s temp parents and drops it off by the child protective services. Tae-Hyeong sees how much she’s struggling and also assures her everything will be fine. They prepare the apartment again and baby-proof everything, they also install cameras.
Yoon-Seong hears of what happens to Hyun Jin and pulls some strings. He has a lawyer friend who helps gather petition from the people around Hyun Jin and Woo Joo to testify that she’s an amazing guardian for him.
Eventually, some days later police calls again and apologizes to the couple saying they take child protection seriously and can some times go too far. They give them Woo Joo back. Woo Joo hasn’t slept for the past couple of days because of this and he’s happy to be back.
The inspector checks the apartment and reads the petitions signed by several people. She’s moved by this and declares they’re ok. There is one final obstacle and its the courts who must recognize they can be Woo Joo’s guardians.
The courts accepts it and they’re now officially his guardians. The entire neighborhood celebrates.
After coming back home, Hyun Jin say she will sleep in the main bedroom because its the best for Woo Joo.
We find out that Yoon-Seong is moving back to the U.S. and before he goes, Hyun Jin thanks him. He reveals he’s leaving but will be there for Woo Joo’s 2nd birthday. Hyun Jin had forgotten so both her and Tae-Hyeong plan his 2nd birthday.
They go all out and their friends all help them through it. Eventually, a grand birthday party is held and everyone is there. The couple celebrates with Woo Joo and have the time of their lives.
