“Pro Bono” Ending Explained

The finale of “Pro Bono” aired a couple of hours back! Let us discuss it and explain the ending!

The episode begins with the team talking about how challenging this case will be while Dr. Oh meets with his associates and plots to make matters go as he wishes.

The team initially wanted to blow up a hidden card they’ve had at the final step but decide to expose it as the first thing in the next trial. A voice recording is played at the court exposing Dr. Oh talking to Justice Jang about their scheme. This also indirectly puts the judge in the crossfire because he’s in on it too. Da Wit also informs the press who have a wild day with the news.

The voice recording was given by Jung In, she wanted to expose her own dad. Through a conversation with Jung-in, Da Wit confronts her and finds out he’s been used from the get-go to become a weapon she can use to hurt and bring down her dad. She says she won’t apologize for it.

At a later meeting, she suggests he looks for her dad’s truth in the 100s of lies he tells.

At another new trial, the judge is replaced with another one who is on their side. Da Wit senses he’s losing as his evidence of recording gets mostly dismissed so he requests to cross examine the accomplices together in front of each other, this also includes Dr. Oh.

After throwing the bait, Da Wit waits to see if they take it. He sends a deepfake of Shin Jung-Seok to Jang Hyeon-Bae and vice versa of them admitting and begging for mercy. Eventually, both men attend the cross examination fearing what the other might say.

Dr. Oh asks to meet Da Wit and ends up offering him the position of justice instead of Shin Jung-Seok. He knows its his lifelong dream. Da Wit is flustered by the offer and doesn’t answer back.

At the next trial, both accomplices sit next to each other with Shin Jung-Seok refusing to budge while Jang Hyeon-Bae seeming more agitated and scared. Dr. Oh ends up coming to the court to also be cross-examined but Da Wit says he doesn’t wish for him to do so, so the Dr. attends the trial watching from behind.

Da Wit threatens to play another recording that supports his claims against both of them, before he does that, Jang Hyeon-Bae cracks and admits that Shin Jung-Seok offered him the position and contacted him to help him take revenge against Da Wit too.

Da Wit plays the recording anyways, and its that of Dr. Oh offering him the position of justice, thus, proving his allegations against both of the others. We also find out that Jung-in conspired with Lawyer Woo to make sure he plants seeds of doubt in Jang Hyeon-Bae’s mind.

Eventually, the matter is exposed and both men get held somewhat accountable, but Dr. Oh manages to escape prison using his connections.

Da-wit gets his office and gets the promotion he always dreamt of. He meets the rest of the higher management team. The team takes on a case of a chemical group looking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by babies parents over issues with their products, Da Wit makes a remark that their products hurt babies, but he gets dismissed.

At night, he meets up with Jung-in and reminds her of a story he told her and only her. He says she used that story to manipulate him and get another man to manipulate him too which eventually became the catalyst Jung-in used to bring down her dad. She tells him not to dwell on the past and take over the world with her, she even suggests she could make him a co-CEO if he likes.

Later that night, Da-wit is celebrated and thanked by Gi-Ppeum and her parents for what he’d done and he gets reminded of his name and the meaning behind it. The next day, he ends up clashing with the management and says he’s leaving.

He takes his team and quits on the spot to open his own practice for pro bono cases.

The final scene of the drama shows an elderly couple losing a lawsuit and the team marching in to defend them. The end.
