“The Defects” Ending Explained

“The defects” has wrapped up its run a couple of hours ago. This is a recap of the finale and its ending explained!

“The defects” episode 8 recap

The first lady calls Kim Se-Hee and asks about Ah Hyun and how she’s doing the 1^st months of pregnancy. The first lady is assured everything will be handled well.

The parents who think their kids are defected all bring them to Kim Se-Hee’s villa while the team tries to enter the location using different ways. At first, the team succeeds, but we find out that Kim Se-Hee was already aware and thwarted their plans.

The meeting between the parents and Kim Se-Hee is held and the parents explain via video interview why their kids are defective and they want to return them back. Then, Kim Se-Hee says they must kill their children and hands in hands. The parents protest at first but eventually cave in as she threatens them.

This will mean everyone is in on it together.

Tae-Sik gets beaten badly and stabbed by Jung Hyeon. He’s taken away and so is the rest of the team minus Ah-Hyun who also gets eventually captured.

In the meantime, the younger Ah Hyun visits the first lady and explains she’s not even pregnant and explains what Kim Se-Hee has been up to and how she does it. The first lady is furious as expected and decides to make her suffer for what she attempted to do to her.

The game begins and the parents begin shooting at their kids and chaos ensues. The team is also badly injured fighting with guns, many of which get hit with gunshots. As Ah Hyun realizes the situation is dire, she’s escorted to her mother who is about to kill her.

Kim Se-Hee has a particular bone to pick with Eun Jo’s parents who refuse to have their kid who is sick shot, so Kim Se-Hee shoots the mother instead and she dies.

As Kim Se-Hee is about to shoot Ah Hyun too, the police force shows up. A huge unit all pointing guns at them. Kim Se-Hee tries calling the chief of police and the first lady and they don’t give her much room to wiggle. She knows she’s screwed now.

Jung Hyeon tells Kim Se-Hee its ok to abandon him right now and begins shooting at the police force, he gets injured badly and dies. The young Ah Hyun is escorted by police to the premise and watches him die.

Kim Se-Hee tries calling the first lady again who tells her to just shut up and die, there is nothing she can do now. She rushes to her lab to get her stuff and is confronted by Ah Hyun who is holding a gun. Ah-hyun confronted her, saying, “All you do is create another child who looks like you. The ‘perfect being’ you talk about will never be you. They’ll be born to proper parents, grow up loved, and shine brightly—unlike you, who reek of rot.” She continued, “I thought you might regret abandoning me, even a little. If I’d known you were just this kind of person, I’d have missed you less and only hated you. I regret ever expecting anything from you. You’ve lost. Completely.” Then she fired a gun. The gun hit the glass and Ah Hyun walks away after telling her mom she loves her.

Kim Se-Hee takes the gun, crying and shoots herself dead. The police carry out an investigation into her with many shocking revelations made public.

In the end, Tae Sik helps out police more and gets arrested in the process. He’s serving jail time. The kids are all right and are doing well even gathering and celebrating together like normal people do. They end up visiting Seok Su too.
