“The First Night With The Duke” Ending Explained

The KBS drama “The First Night With The Duke” has aired its finale a couple of hours ago, let us go through some of the biggest takeways from the finale and explain the ending!

Prince Gyeonseong escapes death and chooses not to kill anymore for the promise he’s made. He rushes back to Sun-Chaek.

People of the court, led by Su-Gyeom try to stop what the king ordered but are soon faced with threats. Sun-Chaek runs off but is captured by Seong Hyeong himself and his people. But when Gyeonseong shows up, the people run off scared and he faces Gyeonseong, telling him he has no mercy or guilt towards him but he does not kill him.

The couple reunite and are happy to be together again, but Gyeonseong has to see the king who was poisoned with agarwood and is in critical condition,n even hallucinating. He begs Prince Gyeonseong for his life and re-imagines the past.  Eun-Ae gets arrested and escorted away, too.

The king’s mother steps up after her son’s health worsens and asks Prince Gyeonseong to aid.  Sun-Chaek faces Eun-Ae and tells her how much she loved her, but Eun-Ae blames her for ruining everything and says she’s always been horrible.

The king faces against Seong Hyeong and the people who worked with him and says he’ll spare their lives if they admit to their crimes. Seong Hyeong loses it as everyone admits to it and almost gets killed by the king, but is escorted. Prince Gyeonseong stops it from happening and even stops him from killing himself; he eventually gets exiled far away.

As the wedding draws to a close, Sun-Chaek is confronted by the mysterious kid who asks if she’s sure she wants to stay here. She decides to stay even if it means the story ends and the world disappears, but she gets cold feet and tries to delay the wedding. Prince Gyeonseong asks why and she tells him the truth, but he does not believe her.

Eventually, the couple hold their wedding and end up having 6 kids together, 3 boys, 3 girls and Sun-Chaek wants to have a total of 12 kids. Prince Gyeonseong decides not to draw his sword again and steps away from the king’s assigned duties. The king apologized to him for what he’d done to him.

While the story seemed like it ended, eventually, a spin-off is called allowing the couple to continue their lovely story.
