“Good Partner” Episodes 1 And 2 Review

Jang Nara is back, this time alongside Nam Ji Hyun for the newest SBS law drama “Good Partner,” so how was the premiere?

You can count on Nara to give you interesting Kdramas to watch and this seems like one of them. Poor Nara is being cheated on, AGAIN, for this series too. When will she catch a break?

But in all seriousness, “Good Partner” was a good start to the series. And to my knowledge, Korean viewers also agree considering how well it performed for episode 1 ratings.

So, the story is about four divorce lawyers navigating their workplace, clashing at times, but ultimately doing their best for their clients.

I liked the premiere, and I especially liked how the screenwriter establishes that as a divorce lawyer, you will have to defend horrible people, sometimes.

Which leads me to question why on earth was a character like Han Yu-Ri ever interested in being a lawyer. Because the way she acts and reacts suits a prosecutor more. Even if she was chosen for her preferred department, for such a huge company, there are bound to be horrible clients needing support. Wouldn’t something more of a social worker suit her better?

The contrast between Yu-Ri and Cha Eun-Kyung will be interesting to see as they often butt heads. The screenwriter tries to portray Cha Eun-Kyung as a ‘difficult’ boss, but I personally didn’t see her that way. Jang Nara had played other characters that were more difficult that this one.

She might be a bit too upfront but, in my opinion, it wasn’t bad enough that you’d want to leave immediately… not unless we’re yet to see how much more ruthless she can be. But even then, Yu Ri has not seen such a horrible bad side that would justify her wanting to leave unless its on principal which is already shaky because why would you choose a big law firm or become a lawyer to begin with…

Lawyers have to bend to the will of their clients whether they’re innocent or not, and while you can argue that they can quit, its not easy to do if you’re part of such a large firm, you’ll have to defend horrible people sometimes.

I liked that it was clearly portrayed in episode 1 and the 2^nd episode was an even better representation about how humans act and react when wrong or when they perceive being challenged until having to deal with the consequences of their own actions.

I really liked the writing for these two episodes, and if the remaining episodes are any similar, I’d be willing to bet it’ll become a very successful drama.

Kim Joon Ho is apparently playing a nice role this time around, I am curious to see his chemistry with Nara and I wonder, if their relationship will remain strictly professional or not.
