“Hyper Knife” Episodes 1 And 2 Review- Park Eun Bin Kills It, Literally And Figuratively

Disney+ newest Kdrama “Hyper Knife” is finally here! Lets talk about when a genius doctor reunites with his psychopath genius pupil!

So this marks Park Eun Bin’s 1^st ever villain role if I am not mistaken. The premise itself is very interesting and the fact that Seok is a borderline psychopath is very interesting. On one hand, she’s immensely gifted, on the other, the girl is a menace and a danger to society.

Where do you draw the line when it comes to murdering horrible people? And also, what would make it so someone ‘deserves’ to be murdered or not? It seems this will be a question “Hyper Knife” will try to answer.

So this is written by a screenwriter named Kim Sun-Hee who worked on “God’s Quiz,” an OCN  medical crime investigation drama, according to Namu Wiki.

This screenwriter has a background in working on medical projects. This drama will also only be 8 episodes long, which is on the shorter side even for Disney+ original Kdramas.

So far, I’d say the writing has been impeccable. Its fast-paced, its intriguing, its f-ed up and made me curious to see just how Seok will react.

I don’t know what exactly led to Seok being ostracized by Dr. choi. They don’t really clarify, and it seems to me its not just an issue with her not going to Boston. I believe he had a much bigger better reason why he decided she should not go into ER or operate, so it remains to see if he’s calculated in a good way or a bad way.

I believe it has something to do with just how volatile and rude she can be. Somebody like her should be locked up, as she’s truly a danger to society and herself in my opinion.

For now, she’s targeting horrible people but that’s because she’s around horrible people. If she’s truly psychopathic like the screenwriter claims, she shouldn’t be this emotionally charged. So to me, her characterization seems to be slightly wrong, so far.

Psychopaths do experience emotions but they’re very superficial, and its only when its something that triggers them. But according to what I’ve read online, it wouldn’t be ‘deeply felt’ which is exactly what Seok is feeling, deeply betrayed by the doctor who ruined her life. Of course, I could be wrong here but to my knowledge, while psychopaths do experience some emotions, they’re generally short-lived too.

She does have many psychopathic traits but it remains to be seen just how truly psychopathic she is. My guess is, she’s crazy about Dr. Choi and she wouldn’t kill him during surgery as her desire for perfectly doing surgery would be ruined. It would be interesting to see whether the screenwriter drags the plot of his surgery for long or is done with it next week.

Overall, this was very enjoyable and very reminiscent of OCN dramas. As someone who loves horror, crime and thriller dramas, this is right up my alley. It should be interesting to see how long she can avoid justice. It would be weird if Dr. Choi allows her back into the OR after seeing her murder a man, regardless of whether he still knows she won’t hurt him, will he allow her back to the OR to operate on other people?

Whatever the answer will be, I am sure it’ll be an interesting watch.
