Over 10,000 People Sign Petition Calling For The Severe Punishment Of Famous Kpop Idol’s Fiance Over Patient’s Death In His Hospital

More than 10,000 people have joined a petition calling for the severe punishment of director Yang Jae Woong, who is engaged to marry EXID member-turned-actress Hani (Ahn Heeyeon). The call for accountability comes after a patient in the closed ward of W Jin Hospital in Bucheon, which he operates, died.

According to a report by Hankyoreh on the 11^th of September, the Korean Association for the Mentally Disabled stated, “We are conducting a petition demanding a thorough investigation into the death at Bucheon W Jin Hospital and the criminal punishment of director Yang Jae Woong and those involved. So far, a total of 10,753 people have participated.”

The petition, which began on the 14th of last month, has already drawn over 10,000 signatures in less than a month from people with mental disabilities, related institution workers, students, and non-disabled individuals from all walks of life.

In May last year, at W Jin Hospital—where psychiatrist and TV personality Yang Jae Woong serves as chief director—a woman in her 30s who had been admitted for treatment of addiction to diet drugs containing narcotics died just 17 days later. Her cause of death was determined to be “acute pseudo-obstruction.” The bereaved family claimed clear negligence by the hospital, submitting CCTV footage showing medical staff restraining the patient despite her repeated complaints of pain.

Police, based on hospital CCTV footage, recordings of medical staff, and phone messages, reportedly concluded that violations of the Medical Service Act—such as isolation, coercion, and falsification of medical records—were present, and plan to forward the case to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.

Meanwhile, Yang Jae Woong had been scheduled to marry actress Hani, formerly of EXID, in September of last year. However, following the news of the patient’s death at his hospital, the couple’s wedding was indefinitely postponed. Hani also faced critical comments on social media, dropped program appearances, and temporarily halted her activities.
