Netflix Confirms T.O.P Is Set To Join Press Interviews Regarding His Role In “Squid Game 2,” Fans Rejoice
T.O.P (real name Choi Seung Hyun) has belatedly confirmed an interview regarding “Squid Game 2.”
According to OSEN on the morning of the 10th of January, T.O.P will hold an interview on the 15th concerning the Netflix series “Squid Game 2.”
Netflix later confirmed that T.O.P would meet with reporters at a café in Seoul on the scheduled day. According to insiders, T.O.P had deeply contemplated whether to participate in the interview and only recently made the difficult decision to proceed.
Initially, T.O.P was excluded from the main cast roundtable interviews announced by Netflix on the 20th of last month. Those interviews featured leading cast members such as Lee Jung Jae, Park Gyu Young, Yang Dong Geun, Lee Seo Hwan, Wi Ha Joon, Kang Ae Shim, Lee Byung Hun, Park Sung Hoon, Im Siwan, and Jo Yu Ri, as well as director Hwang Dong Hyuk. While most of the key actors participated, T.O.P, who left a strong impression as “Thanos” in the series, was notably absent.
This absence followed a series of controversies surrounding T.O.P’s casting in “Squid Game 2.” Since joining the series, his involvement has been a point of contention due to his 2016 marijuana use conviction, which led to a 10-month suspended sentence. Additionally, there were allegations of “network casting,” speculating that he was recommended for the role due to personal connections with stars like Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun. While his performance received praise overseas, domestic reception of his acting sparked mixed opinions.
Since announcing his participation in “Squid Game 2,” T.O.P has stayed out of the limelight, refraining from promotional activities such as teasers, press conferences, and global showcases. His social media has also been inactive.
When news broke that he would not participate in initial interviews, speculation arose that Choi Seung Hyun was being excluded from the promotional schedule. At the time, a representative clarified to OSEN that “the interviews were organized primarily with cast members who attended the press conference,” but they remained cautious about confirming whether T.O.P would be given an opportunity later.
Finally, about a month after the interviews with the main cast concluded, T.O.P was added to the lineup. Anticipation is building as audiences await his perspective on the series and his role in “Squid Game 2.”
