Singer Jessi Parts Ways With Her New Label A Month After Signing Following The Recent Incident
Singer Jessi has parted ways with her agency about a month after signing her contract.
On October 18, DOD stated, “After extensive discussions about her future activities, Jessi requested to end the exclusive contract. After careful consideration, we mutually decided to terminate the contract as of October 18, 2024.”
This breakup comes less than a month after Jessi signed a management contract with the label on September 20. The announcement also follows news that Jessi has been under police investigation for charges related to assault and harboring a criminal, drawing significant attention.
Jessi has changed agencies multiple times in recent years.
In 2019, Jessi signed an exclusive contract with P Nation, the label founded by Psy. She became the first artist to sign under the new label, garnering attention and achieving success with hit songs like “NUNU NANA.” She also enjoyed a successful run on variety shows such as MBC’s Hangout With Yoo and tvN’s Sixth Sense.
However, in 2022, Jessi announced her departure from P Nation. At the time, she left a cryptic message on her social media, stating, “I understand that there are various speculations about my situation, but the truth will come out soon. I kindly ask for some time to gather my thoughts and take a breath.”
In April 2023, Jessi signed an exclusive contract with Jay Park’s label, More Vision, marking a fresh start. However, by the end of that year, reports emerged that her music broadcast schedules had been suddenly canceled, and tensions were brewing between the artist and the agency. The media reported that the contract was on the verge of termination.
Though both Jay Park and Jessi denied the conflict rumors, they officially parted ways in January 2024, only 9 months after signing.
Following her departure from More Vision, Jessi operated without an agency for a while. On September 20, she signed with DOD and established her own independent label, UNNI, to pursue solo activities. However, within just a month, the exclusive contract ended, once again drawing attention.
Recently, on September 29, Jessi was involved in another assault incident in Apgujeong, Gangnam, Seoul. The minor victim accused B, the person who assaulted them, along with Jessi and three others, of assault. The victim, who was a fan of Jessi, had approached her to request a photo, but a man in Jessi’s entourage assaulted the fan. Jessi tried to stop the altercation and then left the scene. The police were later called by the victim.
Jessi claimed that she did not know the assailant, B, who she said was a Chinese national and is no longer in Korea.
On the 12th, Jessi issued an apology through her social media, stating, “An unfortunate incident occurred where a fan was suddenly assaulted by a person I had met for the first time that day. Regardless of the circumstances, I deeply regret that my fan was harmed, and I feel a moral responsibility.”
Jessi appeared at the police station on the 16th, saying, “I hope they quickly find the person who hit the fan and punish them. I will tell everything truthfully today.” She reaffirmed that she had never met the assailant before and expressed her sincere apologies to the victim.
