Song Mino’s Military Supervisor Sheds More Light On His Condition, “Unable To Carry Out Normal Activities”
WINNER’s Song Mino is facing allegations of neglecting his duties as a public service worker, prompting investigations by both the Military Manpower Administration and the police.
The supervisor at Song Mino’s designated workplace confirmed ongoing investigations, including the preservation of CCTV footage, while stating that Song’s health condition made it difficult for him to perform regular duties.
On December 19, the supervisor of the Mapo Resident Welfare Facility, identified as “A,” told Ilgan Sports in a phone call, “Since the media report, officials from the Military Manpower Administration have been visiting to review CCTV footage, attendance records, and other relevant materials. The police have also requested CCTV preservation for their investigation.”
The allegations surfaced on December 17, following a report claiming that Song Mino, after being transferred to the Mapo Resident Welfare Facility in March, would occasionally show up, sign in, smoke, and leave shortly afterward.
Supervisor A refrained from commenting on specific accusations due to the ongoing investigation but cautiously addressed Song Mino’s health condition. Song is reported to suffer from panic disorder and bipolar disorder. A stated, “He is unable to carry out normal activities. His body is almost sedated by medication. There are severe episodes (such as panic attacks), particularly in March, April, October, November, and December, which were especially challenging.”
Song Mino’s conditions had previously resulted in his exemption from active military service, leading to a Grade 4 supplemental service designation.
Supervisor A elaborated, “When he joined the workplace in March, a discussion was held between the Military Manpower Administration, our facility, and Song Mino. It was agreed that he would work in a non-public setting due to his condition. Since he felt burdened by being seen by other staff, we had no choice but to designate a resting area for him as his workspace.”
Song Mino, who is currently on medical leave, is scheduled to be discharged on December 23. Regarding the allegations, A said, “The Military Manpower Administration has asked Song Mino to submit documentation to clarify the accusations of absenteeism. While his discharge is unlikely to be delayed, any issues identified could lead to subsequent penalties.”
Meanwhile, YG Entertainment initially responded to the claims by stating, “We cannot provide details regarding the artist’s service. However, all medical leave and absences have adhered to regulations, and the reasons stem from ongoing treatment he has been receiving since before his enlistment.”
