After Abruptly Announcing Wendy’s Absence From Its 30th Anniversary Concert, Wendy Calls Out SM And Says This
Two of the biggest kpop idols under SM Entertainment have expressed their disappointment and issues with SM publicly after dropping out of its 30th anniversary concert.
The SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in SEOUL concert is set to take place on January 11 and 12 at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. However, SM Entertainment previously announced that Taeyeon and Wendy would not be participating.
In December, the agency notified fans that “Taeyeon will not be appearing” and apologized for the inconvenience caused by the lineup change. On January 6, they further announced Wendy’s absence, citing “personal reasons” and offering ticket cancellations and refunds without fees for affected fans.
Why Taeyeon is not participating in SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in SEOUL?
Taeyeon shared her thoughts on January 6 through her communication platform, Bubble. She revealed, “I wanted to prepare an amazing stage, performing two or three songs with enthusiasm. I had informed the company and waited for preparations to begin. But to put it bluntly, nothing was arranged, so I couldn’t participate at all.”
She added, “It’s not that I lack the will or don’t want to perform. I genuinely care about the stage and want to give my all. However, when I don’t receive the support I need, it makes me think seriously about the situation. I’m sharing this because I don’t want SONEs [Girls’ Generation’s fandom] to misunderstand my intentions.”
Responding to a fan’s comment that the company might have its own reasons, Taeyeon remarked, “Apparently, they forgot to pass on the details, which is understandable. I will strive to make better choices moving forward. Regardless, I ask you not to criticize everyone in the company, as there are many employees working hard behind the scenes.”
Wendy’s comments about missing SM’s 30th anniversary concert
Similarly, Wendy expressed frustration about the delayed announcement of her absence. She said, “The discussion with the company happened over a month ago, but the notice only went up today.” She apologized to fans, stating, “I’m sorry to ReVeluvs [Red Velvet’s fandom] who were anticipating a five-member performance. Since it’s the 30th anniversary, there are many stages prepared. I hope you enjoy the event. Thank you and sorry, always.”
When asked if she was sick hence her absence, she denied this and said, “I’m not sick, and I’m healthy. My goal for 2025 is to stay healthy, happy, and perform on stages I love as much as possible. I really want to sing so badly.”
