Wheesung’s Funeral Proceedings To Be Put On Hold As Police Move To Request An Autopsy

As the sudden passing of singer Wheesung shocked the public, police have begun investigating the exact cause of his death.

According to police on March 11, the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station has requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service (NFS) and will analyze his mobile phone to determine the precise cause of death. Due to this, funeral proceedings and the preparation of a memorial space have been temporarily put on hold.

Wheesung was found dead at his home in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on March 10. He was 43 years old.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene after receiving a report from his family, but Wheesung had already passed away by the time they arrived. Authorities believe a significant amount of time had elapsed since his death, and they are focusing on determining the exact cause. So far, no signs of external intrusion or foul play have been found.

His agency stated, “Wheesung was found in a state of cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was later pronounced dead. Please pray for his soul to rest in peace. Further details regarding the funeral will be announced separately.”

Debuting in 2002 with the song “Can’t We,” Wheesung gained immense popularity as one of the leading solo artists of the 2000s, known for his powerful vocals and hit songs like “With Me,” “The Day We Met Again,” “Incurable Disease,” and “Even Thought of Marriage.”

After attempting a healthy comeback due to past controversies, Wheesung resumed activities, releasing drama OSTs, performing, and staying in touch with fans. Just last month, he held a birthday fan meeting. He was also scheduled to hold a joint concert, “The Story,” with KCM in Daegu on March 15, but the event has now been canceled following the tragic news.
