YG’s Group New Year Greetings Missing A Member Draws Attention Amid His Ongoing Military Service Controversy
New Year’s greetings from the members of WINNER were shared, drawing attention as member Song Mino was absent amid ongoing controversy surrounding his alleged negligent military service.
Recently, WINNER member Kang Seung Yoon posted on his personal channel, writing, “Have a happy Lunar New Year,” along with a blue heart emoji.
In the released photos, Kang Seung Yoon, Kim Jin Woo, and Lee Seung Hoon showcased hanbok styles that suited each of them, capturing fans’ attention.
However, fellow member Song Mino did not appear in the greeting photos, drawing notice from fans.
Recently, Song Mino has been embroiled in controversy over allegations of negligent service and violation of the Military Service Act. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office stated that while serving as a public service worker at facilities in Mapo District, he was reportedly absent without leave for a total of 102 days.
It is reported that Song Mino was absent for roughly a quarter of his required service period, missing approximately 102 out of 430 working days. Under the Military Service Act (Article 89-2), leaving service without valid reason for more than eight days can result in a prison sentence of up to three years.
Song Mino served as a public service worker in Mapo District from March 2023 to December of the following year but faced allegations of failing to properly report for duty. In December last year, both Song Mino and the supervisor at his assigned workplace were indicted on charges related to violation of the Military Service Act and aiding negligent service.
After attending three rounds of police questioning, Song Mino initially denied the allegations during his first summons, stating that he had served properly. However, during further investigation conducted alongside evidence such as CCTV footage from the workplace, he reportedly admitted to most of the allegations.
His first trial, originally scheduled for March, was postponed following a request for delay and is now set to take place on April 21.
