WINNER’s Song Mino is under formal investigation by the police over allegations of improper conduct during his alternative military service.

On December 26, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul confirmed that Song Mino has been booked on charges of violating the Military Service Act. This follows a referral from the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) on December 23, requesting an investigation into allegations of misconduct during his service as a public service worker.

What would happen if Song Mino is found guilty?

Despite Song Mino completing his service on December 23, the MMA has indicated that, depending on the results of the investigation, his discharge may be revoked, and he may be required to serve again for the period deemed insufficient.

The controversy arose on December 17 when Dispatch reported that Song Mino, during his time at the Mapo Facilities Management Corporation, allegedly failed to attend work regularly, adjusted his working hours, avoided assigned duties, and received special privileges such as exemptions from the standard dress code.

As public backlash grew, Seoul Mayor Oh Se Hoon announced on December 24 a “comprehensive emergency investigation into the service conduct of social service personnel across Seoul’s affiliated institutions.” He also stated, “We will take strict action based on the findings and, if necessary, propose institutional reforms to the MMA to ensure fairness in fulfilling military duties.”
