“Light Shop” Ending Explained- Episode 8 Recap And Review + Season 2 Coming Soon?
“Light Shop” has concluded its run as Disney+ unveiled the finale episodes earlier today, let us recap the finale and explain the ending!

“Light Shop” episode 8 recap
The episode begins with a flashback to 5 years ago when Young-Ji woke up from her coma, she tells her nurse she wants to be like her and recalls how the light was pretty in that place.
Fast forward to the present time, the patient in bed one wakes up, its the same patient Young-Ji put the headphones on for. He thanks her and holds her hands as he wakes up.
Ji-Young keeps trying to wake up Hyun-Min, because it doesn’t work, she then goes on the bus and takes him out of it forcibly. She cries asking if he’s ever loved her and as she’s shaking him she exposes his stomach which has scars over it, he then figures out he’s between life and death.
At their place, he holds her hands and cries apologizing because he couldn’t remember her. As he’s crying she asks him to go to the light shop, find the light and escape.
In the meantime, the bus driver Oh Seung-Won goes to Sun-Hae and her girlfriend’s place. Sun-Hae overhears them talking about how he’s running out of time, he apologizes for the bus incident and says he’s trying to save as many as he can. She tells him there is a girl in another apartment complex, so he rushes there.
On his way, he meets the mother [Yui Hee] who is outside as she senses her funeral is coming to an end. She points at the apartment and leaves in a hurry. She arrives at the light shop and starts begging the shop keeper. She recognized he’s her father who had saved her life and she keeps signaling at the candy, she puts on in his mouth and he recognizes her, they both cry and hug each other tightly.
As the bus driver arrives to the apartment, he realizes he won’t make it far. He sees Hyun-Ju outside and says his mother told him to rush her to the light shop. She then realizes she’s in a coma.
Her mother arrives back with a light bulb, she followed in her father’s footsteps and will now work the shop with him, she gives her the light. Hyun-Ju cries and refuses to touch the light but the mother insists, Hyun-Ju is wailing asking her mother to stay here.
Sun-Hae leaves her apartment and goes to the light shop. There, she finds her light and holds it, she asks what would happen if she broke it. She breaks it so she can stay in the afterlife with her girlfriend.
Hyun-Min says goodbye to Ji-Young and she tells him to go inside the shop. There, as he enters he seems frantic to find the light. He finds it and touches it immediately leaving. Ji-Young can sense he just left, so she goes to the shop and sees he’s no longer there. She leaves crying.
3 months later
The student Ji-Woong is being discharged. Young-Ji gifts him crocs and tells him they should not meet again, he remarks that he’s heard this before.
At his shop, a man comes in and hands Won-Young a new box with new lights, he tells him an accident happened and there will be many new residents.
Hyun-Ju has returned to school even though she missed the CSAT. She’s suffering from delirium as do 20% of the ICU patients. She refused to get treated for delirium because she wanted to remember her mother. As she heads outside to cool off, she stumbles upon a ghost she’d seen in the afterlife, the ghosts wants to be friends.
Won-Young and Yui Hee now work the shop together happily.
Detective Sung-Sik goes to the shop he’d been in before the accident. He says he’s heard of a ghost here, then Mr. Kim pops up. The two have a discussion and we learn that Mr. Kim saved Detective Sung-Sik’s life when he was hit as he was running after him.
Turns out Mr. Kim’s job is to rid the surrounding area from ghosts who refuse to move on. He then hands him his job and gives him his sunglasses. He now will do Mr. Kim’s job since Mr. Kim is dead.
On her way to work, Young-Ji stumbles upon an angry ghost who is upset she didn’t treat him. Luckily for her, Sung-Sik arrives and takes away the ghost. He shows his eyes and the ghost’s eyes go white.
At a session with his psychiatrist, Hyun-Min is struggling with sleep disorder, delirium symptoms. He asks to be saved, he says he knows a woman who loved him died but cannot remember anything. He yells and yells. She recommends he gets rid of all of the items that remind him of the past, only take whats necessary. When he removes certain environmental elements, he should feel better.
As he wheels his chair on the bridge, it stops. It stops where the accident with the bus happened. He holds his old phone and then yells and cries, he then tosses the old phone into the sea.
3 months ago
as Ji-Young’s body is being prepared for the funeral, she talks to the man who is doing the job, she wonders why he can’t remember her and whether this means he never loved her. She says she misses him, she’s angry, frustrated and sad. She wishes he can remember her once and call her name.
As Hyun-Min goes back to his place, he forgets his passcode. The lights turn off, so he waves his hands so they can turn back on which is a reminder of when he used to wave to her. As the lights go on, she shows up on top of his hands. She says, ‘ill follow you.’

post-credit scene, hint at “Light Shop” Season 2
as Detective Sung-Sik closes the case of the high school student who was following Hyun-Ju around, he sees his partner taking in a testimony. He asks him what he’s doing. He talks about a high school that collapsed. He’s told to write a report and wrap it up. He says a young student barged there but she’s not hurt. When the detective asks if she’s ok, it turns out its Hui-Soo [from Moving, as per Kang Full, the two dramas exist in the same universe]. She says she’s not hurt.
At night, Detective Sung-Sik goes into an apartment complex. He sees a man going inside and asks him to leave. The man [played by Park Jung Min] is frustrated. The young man asks if its because of ghosts, they ask each other if they see them, he says he can see them too and snaps his finger and goes ‘like this.’

THAT WAS AWESOMMMMMMMEEEEE. YASSSSSSSSS!!!
What an ending, truly one of the best of 2024. It was a rough two episodes to get through but they’re so worth it. What an amazing project, Kang Full truly outdid himself, I don’t know how he does it but he does.
About Hyun Min and Ji-Young…. Something is off…. Idk, but I think he didn’t actually remember her in the afterlife… or maybe im losing it! Something is off about him, why can’t he remember her? It could be because of either guilt that his parents killed her or because he didn’t actually love her…. But I am guessing its both of those, their story is incomplete. The shop keeper also keeps warning him not to touch just anything, and says, ‘so its not your will.’ this might be why he couldn’t move on properly.
Also that crossover with Moving Hui Soo, omg, what an amazing scene. Imagine seeing both worlds collide next year, I’d lose my mind, it’ll be epic. I hope it happens.
I am happy that for the most part, this season’s stories were concluded almost fully so we can prepare for the next chapters.
Can’t wait for a possible 2nd season.
