“Mercy For None” Ending Explained- Did Gi Jun die?
Netflix has revealed “Mercy For None” earlier today. We’re here to recap the finale and explain the ending!

Geum-Son stumbles on guns after the prosecution raid. Sim Seong-Won is making a run for it, but eventually gets killed and betrayed by his right-hand man. The man calls Choi Seong-Cheol to assure him the job is done.
In the meantime, Geum Son is holding the funeral for his father. Gi-Jun comes after Cha Yeong Du to kill him and is confronted by Kim Gil Lok who is the man who killed his brother. He ultimately kills him too.
Eventually, Gi-Jun catches up to Yeong Du and they have a fight, he presents him his own recordings of Geum Son making these plans with him. Yeong Du offers they take down Geum Son and run the plaza together, but Gi Jun rejects it.
Gi Jun visits the funeral of Lee Ju Woon and tells his son he should stay alive for another day, since his day is coming. Gi Jun meets up with Cheon Hae-Beom and hands him the incriminating recordings, he says he should leave the organization and hold onto these recordings.
After threatening even the prosecutor general, Geum Son holds a meeting to celebrate the merger of Bongsan Gang and Joowoon Gang. In his speech, he tells everybody he’ll build a plaza and run it to make sure they always get what they want.
But, Cheon Hae-Beom sends the recordings to the press, and they go public with it almost immediately. As the meeting is happening, Geum Son loses everything is immediately removed from his title. Choi Seong-Cheol realizes how much he’s been played and is angry. Geum Son gets into an altercation with one of the men and kills him. He’s instructed to leave the premise.
Gi Jun shows up and Choi Seong-Cheol tells him to come, he’ll escort him. he then severely hurts him but gets killed by him.
Geum Son goes back to his house and is holding a gun he took from the previous raid. he loads it.
Gi Jun comes for him, and he gets shot; he’s already very badly hurt. The two discuss what happened and Geum Son says he actually feels its not as good as he expected when he took on the title. Gi Jun tells him how empty the spot truly is and there is only a way down from there.
Gi Jun gets shot again and is told to just stop but he doesn’t and takes out his knife. Geum Son thanks him for hearing him complain and is about to shoot himself but Gi Jun cuts his wrist, he tells him he shouldn’t be allowed to die like this and instead kills him with his knife leaving him to bleed where his father did.
Gi Jun goes back to the camping ground and recalls his brother, he cries seeing him there and as the day comes and it starts snowing, Gi Jun dies in that spot sitting on the chair in the campground.

It was Cha Yeong Du and ultimately, Cha Yeong Du dies when Gi Jun kills him for it. Geum Son raided his place to dethrone him from his position after he found out that he killed his father and not Gi Jun.

As an initial impression, the drama is good. Its a bit absurd, and the characters do point it out, but they could’ve just shot Gi Jun and ended it. The way Gi Jun persisted is a superhuman strength in itself but I don’t think its meant to be taken this seriously.
I believe that if you love action and the actors involved in this project, you’ll love this. Every good male actor is involved in this project. The fact that Netflix achieved this is impressive, they got everybody together. The performances were simply amazing, Gong Myung annoyed me so much in this role, he did so well and Yeong Woo has a bright future ahead of him.
The main takeaway I had from this is just how empty this entire venture seems. To me, this type of power is unappealing, and despite the men doing their best to hold on to it, they seem equally miserable. I mean, they should be. Look at how many people they’ve killed. They all deserved to die, including Gi Jun and his brother, they’re all horrible and I am pretty sure all of them had made peace with that.
Yeong Du and Geum Son are especially skilled and were smart to rile up and lure Gi Jun out of his slumber. That was a good point. It wasn’t much of a surprise but still, executed well.
So Ji Sub does well as a gangster who is sick and tired of everything. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him and this is a good project to be back with.
Overall, a good project.
