“Our Movie” Ending Explained- Did Da-Eum Die?

Jeha and Da Eum sit in the theatre to watch their movie and see very few people, some of which walk away saying they felt sleepy. He thinks he’s screwed with it.
The crew of Jeha reads the finale scene of “Love in White” and are thrilled about it. Seo-Young brings porridge to Da Eum and eats it with her since she’s feeling a bit sick. She tells her she broke up with Jung Woo and will feel the loneliness in its entirety. They encourage each other.
As Da Eum waits for Jeha to go with him to a place, she talks to Dr. Kim about how she’d love if her dad came to her movie set. Then, the couple reunites with the crew who were having dinner together and have a good time.
On the last day of shooting the movie, Actor Kim Hyun-Chul talks to Da Eum and reveals his cancer is back and he doesn’t have much time left. He thanks her for showing him how to live and enjoy whats left of it.
Da Eum dad also ends up showing up to the set and sees his daughter acting the final scene of her character’s death scene. As she looks at the sea, she asks Jeha to wait until she opens her eyes again to yell cut for the final scene. As they shoot the scene, Da Eum imagines seeing her mother and both talk about how bad they feel for the dad who will be left all alone. The mom consoles her and says she knows how much she’s missed her.
As the filming wraps up, Da Eum’s health worsens and one day, she decides to sleep next to her dad crying. On another day, Jeha takes them out on a date and they have lots of fun together, and watch a movie too.
In a different day, Da Eum goes back to the hospital as her health worsens and her friend Kyo-Young stays with her. They share the hospital small bed and Da Eum asks what she’ll do later with her life, whether she’d have kids and what not, Kyo-Young cries asking her to let her sleep.
Jeha and Da Eum watch the cherries blossom together and take back fallen petals to put up on the desk to spell our movie. Then, the camera shows a montage of people closest to the couple also witnessing the beautiful cherry blossoms. As time passes, and it indicates she died.
Jeha watches his film on screen surrounded by people recalling Da Eum, he leaves the theater and cries seeing her poster. Now, his mom was properly accredited for writing the original movie and it also has Da Eum’s name in it because she helped writing it.
1 year later
Jeha had disappeared following Da Eum’s death. AD Yoo Hong makes her debut as a director and even casts Chae Seo-Young in a cameo role. We also find out that Jeha goes with Da Eum’s dad regularly to watch movies together once weekly.
Jeha ends up re-appearing before his colleagues and visits Yoo Hong’s filming set and says hi to everyone.
Jeha also says he’s moving away from the apartment he had while Da Eum was alive. Joon-Byung helps him out with his girlfriend Yoo Hong. The couple gives him some box from Da Eum’s friend before leaving.
When he opens it, he sees Da Eum recorded him a video. She says, “Eat well, write good scripts, make great movies. But if a day comes when you really miss me, then think of me as much as you want. Think about how crazy I was, how passionate our love was. Grieve as much as you want—until it reaches me.”
he cries a lot watching it and as she says I love you, he says it back too.
A while later
Jeha is back directing another script and working fine. He recalls Da eum in many of his day to day life still but is carrying on fine.

Not really, its a bittersweet ending. Da Eum dies but the people around her mourn her and end up trying their best to keep her memory with them after her death.

The way they handled her death was beautiful. It was already a tearjerker, I am glad they didn’t make it more heartbreaking that it already was. The ending scene that signals her death was shot and thought of so beautifully.
Overall, this was an exhausting watch, in a bittersweet type of way. I also was not in the best mental state to watch such a heartbreaking drama, but everyone did so well. I cried a lot.

Thank you for your review. I just completed watching it, and like a lot of KDramas – melodramas it takes me a bit to process what I watched, what wasn’t addressed or left out and my emotions. Lee Da eum, showed incredible strength, love, forgiveness, patience and gratitude for each day given to her. Je Ha finally came out from behind that wall, and remained with her in love to the end and beyond. It is a beautiful series about how delicate our lives truly are, how we need and deserve to love and be loved and how we should not envy others because we don’t always know what they’re experiencing in life. The entire cast was amazing, and it all felt very real. There is one scene that touched me deeply, with Da Eum breaking down on the steps with Je Ha, holding her, after leaving the hospital and seeing everyone gathered together. That was the one that broke me. The opening scene in the 11th episode, although a fantasy is uplifting and happy, and they looked really good. I just finished watching The Beautiful Gong Shim, and loved it, so I’m now watching all of Namkoong Min’s series and movies. I have come to love KDrama’s as they’re new to me and the story lines are always well written and acted. Thanks again.
