Police Set To Investigate Ftisland’s Choi Minhwan For Allegedly Soliciting Prostitution

FT Island’s Choi Minhwan is at the center of controversy following allegations of visiting a prostitution establishment and its been revealed he will be investigated for this allegation.

On the 25^th of October, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced they have launched a preliminary investigation into Choi Min Hwan and an intermediary, identified as “A,” on charges of violating the Prostitution Punishment Act. This preliminary investigation is the stage before a formal inquiry, initiated based on a citizen complaint filed through the National Sinmungo (People’s e-Petition), requesting a thorough investigation of Choi and the intermediary with calls for strict punishment if charges are substantiated.

The controversy erupted after Choi’s ex-wife Yulhee publicly exposed the allegations through her YouTube channel on the 24th, sharing a recorded conversation that reportedly included evidence of Choi’s involvement in such establishments. In the recording, a man’s voice is heard saying, “There are no girls available. I need to be back by 7 o’clock,” and another call includes a remark, “I’m free tonight,” which fueled the debate further.

In response, FNC Entertainment issued a statement on the 25th saying, “Choi Min Hwan feels deeply responsible for the controversy and has decided to halt all broadcasting activities.” KBS also confirmed, “Choi Min Hwan will be stepping down from The Return of Superman, and there are no pre-filmed episodes featuring him.”

Choi Min Hwan joined The Return of Superman in April this year, where he shared daily life moments with his three children. However, Yulhee claimed that during their divorce, there had been an agreement not to feature their children on broadcasts.

Choi Min Hwan and Yulhee married in 2018 but divorced in December 2023. They share one son and twin daughters, with custody currently held by Choi.
