The Police Won’t Charge Former The Boyz’s Member Ju Haknyeon For The Prostitution Allegations, Here Is Why
Former The Boyz member Ju Haknyeon (26) has been cleared of charges related to prostitution allegations.
On July 2, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced that they had decided not to forward Ju Haknyeon’s case regarding alleged violations of the Act on the Punishment of Acts Related to Prostitution. The decision was made on June 25.
The police concluded that the accusations were based on online reports and that there was insufficient evidence or specific circumstances to proceed with a formal investigation.
Previously, a media outlet reported that Ju Haknyeon allegedly met with former AV actress Asuka Kirara at a private bar in Tokyo in late May. The report claimed that there was physical contact, including hugging, and alleged prostitution took place.
Following the report, a citizen filed a complaint through the National Sinmungo platform on June 19, asking the Seoul Gangnam Police to investigate Ju Haknyeon for violating prostitution laws. The complainant also requested an investigation into a former producer from the agency and whether the agency itself could be held responsible under corporate liability regulations.
The complainant stated, “Prostitution destroys human dignity and treats individuals as commodities. It is a form of structural exploitation that harms both individuals and society and must be eradicated.”
As the controversy grew, Ju Haknyeon’s agency Onehundred stated that due to the seriousness of the matter, it was difficult to continue working with him. They announced his removal from the team and termination of his exclusive contract.
Ju Haknyeon acknowledged meeting Asuka but denied any involvement in prostitution, claiming innocence. He said, “If there’s evidence I engaged in prostitution, please release it immediately. I have not left the team, and I did not agree to terminate my contract,” which stirred further controversy.
Ju Haknyeon also responded by filing a countersuit against the anonymous complainant for false accusation. Additionally, he stated he would take legal action against the media outlet and the journalist who first reported the allegations and announced his intention to pursue civil claims.
The agency expressed regret over Ju Haknyeon’s statements, calling them an attempt to avoid responsibility and a distortion of the facts, and hinted at taking legal action in response.
