Song Young Kyu Was Reportedly Living Separately From His Family Prior To His Sudden Tragic Passing
Following the sudden passing of actor Song Young Kyu, it has been reported that he had been living apart from his family due to difficulties with their family business.
On the 4th of August, a close acquaintance of Song Young Kyu shared with OSEN, “Aside from the recent DUI incident, he had been under a lot of stress. With fewer acting projects and personal matters piling up, it became a vicious cycle. He drank to forget his pain and distress. Those around him advised him to stop, which makes this all the more heartbreaking.”
According to the acquaintance, Song Young Kyu had continued working as an actor in dramas and films while his wife ran a café business. Despite their hard work, worsening economic conditions led to financial losses.
The source added, “When I last met him last year, he was already living separately from his wife and children. He rented an officetel in the Bundang area and continued his acting career while living alone. After the DUI incident occurred, it seems the uncertainty about his future grew even more unbearable. The stress must have been overwhelming.”
They continued, “Of course, drunk driving is clearly wrong. But actor Song Young Kyu was incredibly talented and had such a kind personality. It’s heartbreaking and frustrating. I just wish he had been able to overcome things one step at a time.”
Song Young Kyu was found deceased around 8 a.m. on the 4th inside a vehicle in Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province. A woman discovered him and reported it to the police. Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances.
Previously, on the night of June 19, Song Young Kyu was caught driving approximately 5 kilometers under the influence in Giheung-gu, Yongin. A witness reported him, and police confirmed that his blood alcohol concentration was above the license revocation threshold (0.08%).
News of the incident came to light about a month later. Following this, he stepped down from SBS’s “The Winning Try” and ENA’s “The Defects” and the stage play Shakespeare in Love.
His funeral is being held in Room 1 of the Davos Hospital Funeral Hall in Yongin. His wife and two daughters are listed as the chief mourners. The procession will take place at 8 a.m. on the 6th, and he will be laid to rest at Hanbaeksan Memorial Park.
