Ryong gets to hear the heart beat of his baby as Eve asks if its ok, he then finds out its his child and he’s about to be a dad.
Eve tells the space station people that she’s 12 weeks [4 months] pregnant. Its dangerous for her and she needs to go back. Chief Kang is not happy and they wonder how they could’ve missed it during her tests.
Eve begins having pains and she needs a doctor, the team debates since there is no one they can send up there until they remember Ryong. Ryong shows up to the station begging on his knees to be allowed back up there.
The team eventually agrees.
Before he leaves, he sees his moms and thanks them. He also gives them his savings he prepared for his wedding. He refuses to say where he’s going for now.
Eventually, Ryong goes up to space and does a small operation on Eve. She survives it. After it ends, the couple has an altercation over staying or leaving. Ryong reveals he’s here to take her back with him. Eve is not happy with this and says he should go back but he insists. She knows if he stays here, it’ll be very difficult for him, he could lose his eyesight, his ability to walk and more. Eventually, after arguing, they decide to go back down knowing well it’ll kill the baby because there is no way it could survive the descend.
On earth, the mothers clean up Ryong’s room and while cleaning Jung Na-Mi finds a letter that confirms Eve is her daughter. She cries her eyes out after finding out the truth.
The couple prepare to descend to earth, and while doing so, Eve begins to panic and has complications. Because of this, she could die so they stay on the space craft.
3 months later
Kang-Su meets Go-Eun in the airport and asks if Ryong is having a girl or a boy. Kang-Su wants to have kids with her, she’s not receptive but he says Ryong will make it possible.
At the space station, Ryong is thoroughly prepared for her birth surgery. Eve gets complications and goes into labor and asks Ryong to promise her he’s going back after this. She gives birth to the baby, its a girl.
In her mind, she runs a scenario where they have went back to earth, raised the baby Byeol happily. But the reality is different. Eve feels there is something wrong with her pelvis, she broke it. The pelvis area protects major blood vessels, she could bleed and will likely die.
Eve lies to Ryong and says she’s fine, but she asks for alcohol. He brings it to her but decides not to give it to her. She cries her eyes out knowing she’s dying. She thanks Ryong and then sleeps.
1 year later
Kang-Su is holding a press conference about how with doctor Ryong’s help, they’ll make sure everyone can have a baby despite the limitations of earth. During his speech, he proposes to Go-Eun saying he wants them to try having kids together.
During the conference, a reporter asks when Ryong and Byeol are coming back. Dong-A and Tae-Hui who are going to space say it’ll hopefully happen soon. Ryong stayed behind because Byeol has tons of issues and limitations that makes it very hard for her to return to earth and survive. She has a weak heart, low bone density and various other issues but Chief Kang claims they’re closer to when she can return to earth with her dad.
Ryong has been in space for 1 year 7 months refusing to return, he’s the longest man to stay in space.
In the space station, both Dong-A and Tae-Hui try to convince Ryong to return because he’s at his limit [his eye sight will suffer, his muscles will suffer and more] but he refuses to step foot on Earth without getting his daughter with him, he refuses to leave.
Through voiceover, we find out that Eve passed away a day after she gave birth. Ryong spreads her ashes in space. He says, “Goodbye, Eve. See you again.”

It has a bittersweet ending. Eve dies in the end but the baby is born healthy. Despite that, neither Ryong nor the baby can go back to earth due to various issues.

This drama is soooooooooo pro child it comes off as if its against women in such an absurd manner.
it’s puzzling. its been a while since a k-drama ending had me scratching my head. You did it screenwriter Seo Sook-Hyang.
I swear, there will be a time in the future when people will revisit this drama just to study the absurd writing, and idk what to even call it ‘messaging’ or whatever it is the screenwriter is trying to convey.
Ultimately, 3 lives were sacrificed in this drama, and all needlessly in my opinion because it leads nowhere. What principle are they even aiming for? what message is she trying to convey?
Eve died. Ryong will either be disabled if he ever goes back down or will die. The child will also most likely die because it cannot logically adapt its body to earth…. No one will live. Even if we suspend our disbelief, logically speaking, neither the father nor the child will survive going back to earth. No one.
So the father wants to stay behind to take his kid but science limitations will likely make it so either Byeol dies or suffers horribly as she goes back to earth. The best-case scenario for Ryong is he survives, but what type of life will he lead? he’ll likely lose his eyesight, his ability to walk and so much more because he stayed up there for so long. So he’ll neither be able to care for the baby nor will the baby benefit from the sacrifices anyone made in this finale.
So what was the point of all of this? Whats the point of backing Eve’s character into a corner saying she can’t leave, then trapping Ryong there in space for his child, like none of this will end positively, nothing.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind sad endings, but make it make sense, please.
We could argue it’ll advance science in space, and that is a possibility, but I just don’t get the concept of it being a drama. At all. I still don’t get what she’s trying to convey, I’ve tried and tried but I can’t come to a logical conclusion that is…. idk man!

Disappointed with the ending. Don’t understand the dream-like sequences at the very end. Nor why Ryong is drifting in space after he lets the ashes go. I don’t like endings that leave one hanging nor would I have watched the show with such a sad & ambiguous ending. I enjoyed the show overall, and looked forward to the next episodes to see what would happen. But the twists and turns left me feeling sad. I guess the ambiguity is kind of like life, but it’s not why I watch k dramas on Netflix. And yes, everyone did do a good job with the acting…however, the story did leave me unsatisfied.
KDrama productions know their audience—especially in their culture—prefers happy or at least hopeful endings. So, I think the production blended reality and dreams to create a bittersweet conclusion.
Ryong’s perspective showed a dream where they all survived, living an ordinary life as parents dealing with everyday struggles. This symbolizes his deepest wish—a normal family life with Eve and Byeol. However, the reality was much harsher.
In truth, Eve died , and I assume Ryong and Byeol made it back to Earth —but at a great cost. Ryong, as expected, became blind and paralyzed, which essentially ended his chances of having a “normal” life.
⭐ Yet, their sacrifices were not in vain. Byeol lived, cared for by someone, and because of what Ryong and Eve endured, groundbreaking infertility treatments in zero gravity became possible. MZ Group, led by Kang Kang-Su, capitalized on this breakthrough.
I believe the director intentionally left the ending open-ended, allowing the audience to interpret it in their own way. This also helped them avoid fully taking a definitive stance on pro-life vs. pro-choice, as such themes can spark huge controversy.
South Korean audiences take KDramas and films very seriously. If the majority disagrees with the ending, it could make or break a show. So, the production likely created a loop of possibilities—ensuring the finale catered to different opinions, avoiding backlash from any particular group. That’s my humble opinion about the ending.
Well I kind of agree , just lot of people not making it. But the final scene shows Ryong on a wheelchair blind with a child running to him and a lady walking by him too , is that the daughter and not really understandable who is the lady … what an odd ending!
You need to understand and appreciate both the background of the main characters. Ryong’s mother died at birth while Eve knew she was abandoned by her mother because her mother chose to give her up in order to live her life. Thus, even if we are not talking both on a spiritual and religious level, both main characters will be pro-life rather than pro-choice. I actually like the boldness of the story and for the writer to courageously take a stance on how the story should go based on the personalities and life’s experiences of the characters. The production did not bend to satisfy the woke culture but stayed true to where the story needs to go. In fact, this KDrama opens the discussion as to when life actually begins and what’s truly the point of living, its real purpose. Thus, I honestly like the ending because it stayed real and not ended just to satisfy majority of what the audience would like it to end…with a happy ending…which is nice, but will not be true to the crux of the characters, reality and depth of meaning of life for the audience to ponder.
The ending leaves you wondering if Ryong and his daughter survived or not. I usually don’t like ending that leaves you so perplexed. Otherwise I loved this show. I am hoping that one day they will have a new better ending to the story!
Not at all .. i was anxiously waiting for episode 16 .. and get too much disappointment. The ending doesn’t make any sense . Last episode , going to space was like taking a bus from one stop to another .. is that so easy ? Delivering a baby there , i know its drama .. but still ..
also there was a last scene where some one on the wheel chair and a little girl .. is that mean , both of them came back to earth and he lost his ability to do any work normally ??
I really didn’t expect such a ending .. from ep 1 -13 i was kind a glued to it .. but episode 16 was totally flop
