Former CNBLUE Member Lee Jonghyun Reveals He Started a Family in Lengthy Post Marking Return to Social Media
Former CNBLUE member Lee Jonghyun broke his 8-year silence from the entertainment industry, posting a lengthy statement to clear up misunderstandings about his departure from the group and to share an update on his current life.
On August 11th, Lee Jonghyun posted on his social media, “I want to share something I’ve kept in my heart for a long time,” accompanying a lengthy message.
In the post, he wrote, “It’s been about 8 years since I left the team due to my inappropriate words and actions and immaturity, living apart from the world,” adding, “I’ve always carried the burden of knowing that the team and members faced unwanted misunderstandings and criticism because of my past actions. Some fans who cared about me back then may have thought I was shunned by the members, but that is absolutely not true, and it has always pained me that the members ended up getting hurt because of it.”
He continued, “Leaving the team was entirely my own fault and my own choice, and the responsibility for that was mine to bear,” and said, “Since leaving the entertainment industry, my personal life has also had its share of hardships. I started a family, but we are in the process of going our separate ways for both our sakes. Now, though, I want to face my past mistakes rather than avoid them, and step back into the world with my head held high as one human being.”
However, Lee Jonghyun drew a clear line, stating, “This post is by no means written to make a comeback in the entertainment industry.” He added, “Regarding the work I’m currently doing as an ordinary citizen, I wanted to prevent unverified rumors or misunderstandings from arising around certain brands and business matters, and to clarify the facts, so I found the courage to write this. I want to offer my sincere apologies and gratitude to the CNBLUE members, who may have suffered from unnecessary misunderstandings for a long time, and to correct those misunderstandings.”
Meanwhile, Lee Jonghyun debuted in 2010 as a member of the four-piece band CNBLUE, earning love for songs like “I’m a Loner” and “Love Light,” and also worked as an actor. However, in 2019, he voluntarily left the group after a group chat controversy tied to the distribution of illegal filming and after it was revealed he had sent private messages to a female BJ.
