Hong Seok Cheon Rescued Thai Woman who Lost Consciousness At The Bangkok Songkran Festival
Broadcaster Hong Seok Cheon emphasized safety at the Bangkok Songkran festival.
On the 22nd of April, Hong Seok Cheon posted a video on his personal SNS with the caption “Bangkok Songkran Accident. Safety First.”
On that day, Hong Seok Cheon stated, “The Bangkok Songkran Festival is a New Year water festival, but accidents occur every year. This year too, news reported 191 deaths and hundreds of injuries. There are many traffic accidents, but many young people also lose precious lives due to excessive drugs and alcohol. I was invited as a festival DJ and participated in this Songkran.”
He continued, “While enjoying with younger friends at another festival, I moved a Thai woman who collapsed from drinking and hypothermia to a safe place, which was fortunate as it didn’t lead to a major accident. Drinking for long periods while dancing and shouting can suddenly cause shock or hypothermia, so please be extra careful. Various festivals will be held this summer, and I hope everyone enjoys them safely. Youth is beautiful. Just act responsibly. From a middle aged uncle in his mid 50s I wonder if that Thai woman knew I was Hong Seok Cheon?” According to the video, Hong Seok Cheon supported a woman who suddenly collapsed at the Songkran festival and had her carried on another man’s back. He also helped his companions through the crowd enjoying the festival, showing positive influence.
The Bangkok Songkran Festival is Thailand’s traditional New Year celebration held annually starting April 13th. It began as a ritual pouring water on Buddha statues, evolving into a large street festival where people splash water on each other to pray for blessings, now featuring water guns and water cannons. In 2023, it was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
