Lee Sung Min Reportedly Reached Out To Shin Se Kyung To Apologize Over His Speech At The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards

The misunderstanding between Lee Sung Min and Shin Se Kyung has reportedly been resolved.

According to a MyDaily report recently, Lee Sung Min contacted Shin Se Kyung the day after the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards on May 8 and personally apologized for the remarks that had caused misunderstanding.

At the awards ceremony, Lee Sung Min won Best Supporting Actor in the film category for “No Other Choice.” During his acceptance speech, he joked, “I don’t know how nervous I was because Yum Hye Ran was nominated,” adding, “I even cursed internally because Hye Ran didn’t win,” which drew laughter from the audience.

The Best Supporting Actress award in the film category ultimately went to Shin Se Kyung for “Humint.” Yum Hye Ran, who starred alongside Lee Sung Min as a married couple in “No Other Choice,” had also been nominated in the same category.

According to people present at the ceremony, there was no awkward atmosphere at the venue itself. One insider explained, “Lee Sung Min usually thinks more about his teammates than himself, even when receiving awards. It was simply a lighthearted joke, and no one expected it would create such a huge controversy afterward. Everyone at the venue was laughing and enjoying the moment.”

Yum Hye Ran herself also lightened the mood while presenting as the previous year’s winner by joking, “I’m Yum Hye Ran, who just lost.”

However, after Lee Sung Min’s comment, the situation escalated online, with some even criticizing his personality. Industry insiders pushed back against those reactions, noting that Lee Sung Min is widely known for treating younger actors kindly both on and off set. While some people may have viewed the joke as excessive, many reportedly felt the criticism toward his character became overly harsh.

The report stated that after the ceremony, Lee Sung Min personally reached out to Shin Se Kyung to apologize for the misunderstanding caused by his comments, and the two had a sincere conversation about the matter. Although he could have simply let the issue pass, many viewed his actions as mature and considerate.

It was also reported that Shin Se Kyung responded by saying it was not a major issue and that she herself did not know how to react to the controversy surrounding it. Additionally, an executive from Lee Sung Min’s agency reportedly contacted the CEO of Shin Se Kyung’s agency to convey an apology and clear up any misunderstanding.
